The possibility of on – line gambling isn't going anywhere fast in the halls of the state legislature in Harrisburg. It's an idea being promoted... with a recent report indicating the state could raise an estimated $113 – million in revenue. But, for State Representative David Millard.... not so fast since the issue must be explored in depth. Also... safe guards would have to be put in place to keep kids under 18 off websites where the gaming takes place... and to make sure youngsters aren't using a parent's credit card.
Officer Involved Crash
A South Centre Township police officer was not injured early Tuesday after he fell asleep behind the wheel... crashing his cruiser. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in today's edition that 26 – year old Travis Stotelmyer extensively damaged the township's 2008 Dodge Charger while patrolling along Bissett Hollow Road around 6:30 Tuesday morning. Police Chief Bill Richendrfer said Officer Stotelmyer had worked several overnight shifts as a part – timer. He also works for the Scott Township police department. No charges will be filed.
State Police are still investigating a crash between a Nesquehoning police cruiser and a car earlier this week. 69 – year old Carola Sauers of Hazleton died after she was taken to a hospital. Her husband was also critically injured. The cruiser was driven by 25 – year old officer Steven Homanko. It's not known if Homanko was involved in a pursuit. He was treated for moderate injuries. No charges have been filed stemming from that accident in Carbon County.
State Police at Shickshinny have obtained warrants to search a Fairmount Township home where a 32 – year old man was shot by a 16 – year old boy. David Wheeler later died due to a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The domestic dispute at the Mossville Road home last month stemmed from Wheeler taking a bank card belonging to the boy's mother. Thus far... no charges have been filed against the teen.
There is a big Saturday outing on tap for those golfers who plan to participate in the John Devlin tournament... raising money for the Bloomsburg University Football Scholarship fund. It take place at the Rolling Pines Golf Course... just south of Briar Creek. Head Football Coach Paul Darragh appeared on the Tuesday Edition of the WHLM Morning Buzz that there are some openings to play. BU was the last stop on Coach Devlin's outstanding career... and the the tournament and silent auction is a testament to his dedication to football. Registration is at 12 noon Saturday... with a shotgun start an hour later.
A Sheppton woman has hit it big in the Pennsylvania Lottery. Folks at the state lottery say 66 – year old Barbara Shema – Jabs won $162,000 on a Cash 5 ticket sold at the Hazle Mini Mart in Hazle Township. She was one of two players to hit it big in the recent Cash 5 drawing.
PennDOT is getting ready to start two paving projects in Montour County. Beginning Monday... a section of Route 254 in Derry Township will be resurfaced. The two day project will from from Route 54 in Washingtonville to just beyond Steffens Road. A second project will begin next Wednesday... when PPL Road will be paved. Detours for both projects will be implemented.

The Berwick Bulldogs won the Wyoming Valley championship... downing Wyoming Valley West 4 to 2.
In the first game of a two game home series against the Los Angeles Angels... LA just getting by the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 3. The second and final game of the series begins Wednesday afternoon at 1:05. Coverage on the WHLM Stations begins with the pregame show at 12:30.
