Gas Prices

Gas prices are especially steep in Pennsylvania, but some relief is imminent. Pennsylvania's average gas price of $3.77 a gallon for April is up 30 cents since a year ago. Just nine states saw steeper increases, according to data from the Triple - A. State and international politics are compounding historically higher fuel prices, and the result is an expensive one for Pennsylvanians. The Triple – A says gas prices are expected to peak later this week... and drop again by Memorial Day.

 

Kidsburg Build

After five days... through rain and wind... as well as sunny weather... the build out of Kidsburg 2.0 at Bloomsburg Town Park is complete. By late Sunday afternoon... the majority of work was finished... so says organizer Deb Huckens. Minor work still needs to be preformed... but that's small in comparison to the initial work which had to be preformed making the latest version of Kidsburg a reality.

 

Elks & Veterans

A little more than a half dozen veterans from the VA Hospital in Wilkes – Barre had a pretty good time Saturday. They were the guests of the Bloomsburg Elks lodge at the Orangeville Sportsman Club for some relaxation and fishing... so says the organization's Karl Rickmers. The seven vets enjoyed the day... as the local Elks lodge continued their tradition of helping the VA Hospital and the veterans.

 

BU Graduation

The Quadrangle at Bloomsburg University will be busy this Saturday... hosting three separate graduation ceremonies. The College of Business and Education will hold the first ceremony at 9 AM Saturday with just over 300 students graduating... followed by the graduation of 390 Seniors from the College of Science and Technology at Noon... and College of Liberal Arts graduates 516 at 3 O'clock.

 

Shooting Victim

A Fairmont Township man... shot last week by a teenager... has died of his wound. 32 – year old David Wheeler was shot by the 16 – year old teen during an apparent domestic dispute last Tuesday. The incident taking place in a home in the 600 block of Mossville Road. At the time police said they were looking into a case of self – defense. No charges have been filed.

 

Woman Arrested

A Hazleton woman is under arrest for her part in the mugging of a Domino's Pizza Delivery driver last week. Jennifer Esposito is jail in connection with the attempted robbery. Police say the driver was called to an apartment on Penn Court in Hazleton. That's when a man hit the driver over the head with a baseball bat. He's still on the loose.

 

Lycoming Deaths

Authorities in Lycoming County are still investigating the deaths of five people in a cabin near Montgomery over the weekend. A man, a woman and three kids died when it's believed carbon monoxide fumes filled the cabin following a Friday night party. The carbon monoxide apparently caused by a malfunctioning propane heating unit.

 

Abigal's Attic

One of the Danville businesses damaged in a fire two weeks ago has moved and is looking for donations. Abigail's Attic... run by the Auxiliary at Geisinger Medical Center was located next to a restaurant that was extensively damaged by fire last month. The items in the building had to been tosses due to the damage. Now... the Auxil1ary is looking for gently worn clothing and accessories starting Tuesday in the Abigail lobby at GMC. Their new shop will be open soon at at 322 Mill Street in Danville.

 

WHLM Sports

East – West Football

Berwick's senior quarterback C.J. Curry was named the Most Valuable Player for his performance Sunday in the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches East-West All Star game at Franklin Regional High School near Pittsburgh. Curry threw three touchdown passes to lead the East to a 35-25 win. Curry's Berwick teammate Dain Kolwalski started at cornerback and had an interception. Southern Columbia's Josh Trip and Robert Delbo also played for the East team.

 

PHL Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 1-0 Sunday afternoon. Monday night the Phils are at home against the Toronto Bluejays. Coverage on the WHLM Stations begins with the pregame show at 6:30.

 

In other games Sunday... the Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Toronto Bluejays 7-2... the New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1... and it was the New York Mets 5... the Colorado Rockies 1

 

NHL

In game two of a National Hockey League playoff series... the Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the New York Rangers Sunday 3 to nothing. The series is now even at one game apiece.

 

NBA

The first round of the NBA playoffs ended yesterday with two game 7's. The Brooklyn Nets finished off the Toronto Raptors 104-103... and the San Antonio Spurs eliminated the Dallas Mavericks 119-96.
