That Flood watch remains in effect for Columbia and Montour counties... as well as the remainder of the Susquehanna Valley. That's no surprise since we've received a lot of rain Tuesday... and a lot more is expected Wednesday. Charles Ross... a hydrologist for the National Weather Service in State College... says those of us living in low lying areas should be alert to flooding. Before the sun rises Thursday we could receive anywhere from two to five inches of rain.
State Police and the Luzerne County District Attorney's office are still trying to decide if a 16 – year old teenager will be charged in the shooting of a 32 – year old man. The unidentified teen allegedly shot David Wheeler Monday night with a 20 – gauge shotgun at a home on Mossville road... after Wheeler and the teen's mother got into a confrontation. Wheeler was Life – Flighted to a Wilkes – Barre hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He's reported in critical condition following surgery.
The major build for Kidsburg two.0 begins Wednesday morning in the Bloomsburg Town Park... the original Kidsburg extensively damaged in the flood of 2011. Appearing on the Tuesday edition of the WHLM Morning Buzz.... the Town Park Association's Chuck Wagner says despite the pre – build held over the weekend... a lot volunteers are needed. And despite the forecast calling for rain and a flood watch.... Wagner said the build will go on. All you have to do is show up with a desire to work.
It's been tried several times over the past couple of years... now there is a group attempting to raise money and build a memorial to veterans... county wide. Bloomsburg Town councilperson Diane Levan is heading up the drive with a meeting on tap Thursday night. That meeting will take place at 7 O'clock in Council chambers at the Bloomsburg Town Hall.
A state report says most gas drillers in Pennsylvania are ignoring a law requiring them to complete a survey about their use of women- and minority-owned businesses. WHLM's B.J. Small reports fewer than one third of the state's gas operators replied to a survey, mandated by Act 13, Pennsylvania's two-year-old oil and gas law, about companies they contracted with. Of those who responded, half of them said they did not contract with any small businesses owned by women, minorities or veterans. The Corbett administration hopes to get better compliance in this year's survey and get a firmer grasp on the situation.
State police in Frackville... in neighboring Schuylkill County... are investigating the death of a Shenandoah woman. The only thing police are saying is that the unidentified woman's body was found in an apartment in the 500 block of Centre Street late Tuesday afternoon. There is a report of a man and woman fighting and investigators are checking that out.
A Dorrance Township man is accused of having sex with an underage girl. 26 – year old Matthew Meyers allegedly had sex with the 14 – year old girl several times. Meyers is facing a host of charges. He was arraigned at a magistrate's office in Sugarloaf Township. Meyers is locked up in Luzerne County.
It's tough to be a Domino's pizza delivery driver these days. Hazleton police are looking for the person who attacked a driver Monday night. The mugging happened in the 800 block of Penn Court. The driver was hit in the head several times with a baseball bat. Nothing was stolen. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The state department of labor says unemployment in the Wilkes – Barre / Scranton area dropped to 7.7 % in March... the lowest since the start of 2009... but remained the highest unemployment rate in the Commonwealth. The number was compared to February's rate of 7.8%.
Former Bloomsburg University assistant football coach Bob Gutshall will be inducted into the Lock Haven University Athletic Hall of fame this Saturday. Gutshall, a 1967 graduate, played two seasons for the Bald Eagles after transferring from Pitt. In 1964 he was an All American as a running back. He was also one of the nation's top punters.
After a one hour and 28 minute rain delay, the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets finally got their game started in Philadelphia last night. In the end... the Mets defeated the Phils 6 to 1. Tonight's game against the Mets has been postponed due to the storms. A make-up date has yet to be determined.
In other games last night... the Seattle Mariners defeated the New York Yankees 6 to 3... and the game between the Pittsburgh Pirates the Baltimore Orioles was postponed due to rain.
In game six of their NHL playoff series last night... The Philadelphia Flyers getting by the New York Rangers 5 to 2... forcing game seven in their series.
