Double Murder

Two Sweet Valley residents are in custody... charged with murdering a father and his son. Holly Crawford and James Roache were picked up by State Police at Shickshinny. The dead are identified as 73 – year old Ronald Evans and his 43 – year old son... Jeff. The incident taking place at a home on Sunset Lake Road in the Hunlock Creek area early Wednesday afternoon. Crawford and Roache are both behind bars in Luzerne County.


Conceal Carry

State Representative Kurt Masser held a Concealed Carry seminar Wednesday night in Ranshaw... in neighboring Northumberland County. Representative Masser says it's an important issue. On hand for the seminar... Northumberland County D-A Tony Rosini... as well as Montour County Sheriff Ray Gerringer and Northumberland County acting sheriff Robert Wolf. All answered questions dealing with the concealed carry law.


Orwigsburg Company

A company based in neighboring Schuylkill County has been accused by the federal government of illegally sending equipment to Iran. Hetran, Incorporated of Orwigsburg and it's chief executive officer are facing charges of sending a piece of equipment to that country used to manufacture cars and aircraft.


Danville Drug Seminar

There is a drug problem in the region among teens and young adults... and that's why a drug and alcohol seminar will be held Thursday night in Danville. Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn says he sees it all. Thursday night's seminar begins at 6:30 at the Danville Middle School auditorium. In addition to the program... there will be vendors on hand talking about treatment programs available in the area.


Democratic Candidates

Can the three other candidates for the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania governor overcome frontrunner Tom Wolf ? WHLM's B.J. Small says former Revenue Secretary Tom Wolf has outspent and outpolled Rob McCord, Katie McGinty and Allyson Schwartz into a double-digit lead, now less than four weeks away from the Democratic gubernatorial primary. Dr. Terry Madonna, a political science professor at Franklin and Marshall College says it could be a race if next poll shows Wolf's lead down to 12 or 13 points. He expects the candidates to step up their contrast and compare tactics.


Republican Challenger

Now that a judge has ruled that Bob Guzzardi can stay on the Republican primary ballot for governor, the challenger to incumbent Tom Corbett is reassessing his chances. Guzzardi, the Montgomery County businessman and lawyer, who has called himself a "minor nuisance," will be on the Republican ballot May 20th, after a challenge to his paperwork. Guzzardi has done no fund-raising, and may be the longshot of longshots. Yet he talks optimistically about the possibility of getting support from fired-up Republicans. The judge's ruling allowing Guzzardi, is being appealed to the state Supreme Court.


Turkey Hill Robbery

Wilkes – Barre police are investigating a robbery which happened in broad daylight Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say a man strolled into the Turkey Hill on South Main Street. He produced a note demanding money... saying he was armed. The clerk handed over the cash and the robber fled. No one was hurt in Wednesday afternoon's stick up of that Wilkes – Barre Turkey Hill.


Road Work

A PennDOT maintenance crew in Columbia County is scheduled to perform roadway base repairs... starting next week... along Fisherdale Road/Tyson School Road in Cleveland and Locust townships.

A large milling machine will be used to remove failing areas of roadway, and new blacktop will be placed on the surface. Traffic will be detoured during the work, scheduled Monday and Tuesday of next week... weather permitting.


WHLM Sports

BU Softball

The Bloomsburg University softball team split a doubleheader Wednesday with Shippensburg on the BU Campus. The Raiders won the opening game 5 to 1... but BU roared back in the second... defeating Shippensburg 11 to 1. On Thursday, the blue and gold take on Kutztown at the Jan Hutchinson Field on the upper campus.


HS Baseball

High School baseball Wednesday... Berwick blanked Dallas 3 to nothing...


HS Softball

High School Softball... Hazleton downed Berwick 9 to 4.


PHL Phillies

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies last night 5 to 2. The two teams wrap up their four game series Thursday night in LA. Catch all the action on the WHLM Stations starting with the pre – game show at 9:35.


Other MLB Games

Other games from Wednesday... the Boston Red Sox downed the New York Yankees 5 to 1... the Cincinnati Reds dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 2... and the New York Mets handed the St. Louis Cardinals a loss with a score of 3 to 2.



In the NHL playoffs... in quarter final action Wednesday night... the Columbus Bluejackets went into overtime, but they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4 to 3. The series is tied at two games apiece.
