Danville Fire Folo

Folks picked up the pieces of their lives Monday after a Sunday night fire destroyed a downtown Danville restaurant... a neighboring third floor apartment of an adjoining building... with smoke and water damage throughout two buildings. It's believed the fire started in the second floor office of B.J.'s Steaks and Ribs on Mill Street. Now... authorities spent Monday trying to pinpoint the cause of Sunday night's Mill Street blaze. For Mike Kuziak who owns the building next to the restaurant... he says he plans to rebuild the apartments and clean up the bottom two floors of his building so his tenants can return... and Abigail's can resume business.


Berwick Manager

The search begins Tuesday for a replacement for Berwick Borough Manager Robert Hivish... who plans to move into the private sector. That... after Borough Council accepted Hivish's resignation. Hivish plans to begin work soon with a Lackawanna County construction company. No time table has been established to find a permanent replacement... allowing field supervisors to watch over on – going projects.


Stuart Tank

The sound of a 70 year old Berwick – built Stuart Tank permeated the air Saturday following ground breaking ceremonies for a permanent memorial to the machine and the men and women who built and maintained the ACF product. Berwick Mayor Tim Burke says the Stuart tank is deeply engrained in Berwick's historical roots. Several hundred people turned out for Saturday's event... then walked 500 feet to the Reliance Fire Hall for a short program... not only honoring the tank and it's history during World War Two... and the 9,000 workers who built them at the former ACF plant at Third and Oak Streets in Berwick.


Don Engle Field

He had a giant of a personality... but he also had a heart of gold. That's what you heard from folks who attended the dedication of a ball field at Central Columbia High School in honor of the late coach Don Engle. Former science and physical education teacher Richard Michael said Engle meant a lot to the district. Engle died earlier this year... after spending 29 seasons as coach and 32 years as an educator. He brought of host of baseball titles to the school... including a state championship back in 1991.


Biker Down

A Luzerne County biker remains in critical condition at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Authorities say Walter Remley of Beach Haven was tossed off his Harley Saturday afternoon as he tried to avoid some cars on Route 11... near Bissetts Lane. He was thrown an estimated 15 feet... landing on his face on the roadway.


Body Found

The body of a Schuylkill County woman was discovered in a Berks County storage site over the weekend. The remains of 24 – year old Alishia Eller of Pine Grove were found near Hamburg. Now... authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy that was preformed Sunday. No one is in custody in connection with the death of Ms. Eller.



That lockdown which had been in effect at the state prison near Dallas in Luzerne County has been lifted. It was imposed after a corrections guard was slashed by an inmate. Police and Correction union leaders say Joe Perez allegedly used a home made weapon and slashed guard Francis Petrowski in the face. Now... those union leaders say the lockdown was lifted too soon.
