A Kutztown University football player has been arrested in connection with the beating of a Bloomsburg University student. Our media partner... Newswatch 16... is reporting that 20 – year old Angel Cruz was arrested Thursday. He's accused of allegedly punching 19 – year old Jackie Lithgow of Carlisle... allowing him to fall... with his head hitting the ground. The incident happened during a party at a frat house on North Iron Street last weekend. Lithgow remains in a coma at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Meantime, the Press – Enterprise is reporting that 20 – year old Justin Weider of Quakertown has been arrested after he allegedly knocked 19 – year old Donald Hoover to the ground... kicking him in the head.

Budget / Zogby
State lawmakers are in the middle of coming up with a budget we can live with. Their base is a nearly $30 – billion dollar plan proposed by Governor Corbett. Appearing on the Thursday Edition of the WHLM Morning Buzz... state Budget Secretary Charles Zogby says the Governor is taking an approach many of us follow... such as budgeting the state's money wisely. And Mr. Zogby says that includes funding education... and protecting those who can't help themselves... as well as law enforcement and transportation.
Governor Tom Corbett has been released from a Pittsburgh hospital where he underwent hernia surgery Thursday. His office said Mr. Corbett will recuperate for a few days at his home in Shaler, in suburban Pittsburgh, and he is expected to return to Harrisburg by Monday. The procedure for a hernia was considered to be routine.
While Mr. Corbett was under general anesthesia... Lt. Gov. James Cawley was acting governor for 90 minutes.
Manufacturers across the state are turning to tech schools for their future employees. State Representative Doyle Heffley of near – by Carbon County says tech schools need to be promoted... as they provide students with a low – cost education and skills... yielding high – paying jobs. Heffley was in Hamburg this week as the House Majority Policy Committee met for a hearing on opportunities provided by tech schools.
He's been the head basketball coach at Wilkes College for the past 22 – years. Now Jerry Rickrode says he's resigning the position and move inside the college to become a major gifts officer. While coach... Rickrode compiled a record of 382 wins and 191 losses... taking the Colonels to MAC and Freedom Conference playoff games... as well as appearing in five NCAA Division Two championship appearances.
The man who was the head of the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority for 30 – years has pleaded guilty to theft charges. Fred DeSanto was accused of using sanitary authority personnel to preform work at Little League and recreation facilities using authority workers on company time. His lawyer said DeSanto has already made restitution... and will be sentenced in April.
If the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team is to advance in the PSAC playoffs, the Huskies will have to do something they could not do during the regular season- beat Kutztown. Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House, the Huskies take on a Kutztown team that beat them twice this season including Wednesday night's game. Tip off time is at 2 O'clock. Four area high school basketball teams will play in District 4 championship games Saturday afternoon. In a triple header at Shikellamy High School, The Central Columbia girls play Mount Carmel in the Class AA final which starts at noon. That will be followed by the Central Columbia boys against Shamokin in the Class AAA championship game. The final game of the afternoon will be a girls AAA final with Danville taking on Mifflinburg. The unbeaten Millville girls play Northeast Bradford in the Class A final. That game will be played Saturday at Montoursville High School starting at 3 o'clock.
Fourteen area high school wrestlers will be competing in the Class AA Northwest Regional Championships which begin Friday night at Williamsport High School. The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state championships in Hershey which will be held March 6th through the 8th.
