Winter Storm

Clouds, snow showers and wind will dominate our weather picture Tuesday. Those snow showers could produce anywhere from one to three inches of accumulation during the day. And talk about cold.... Meteorologist Barry Lambert of the National Weather Service in State College says the Commonwealth will feel a breakaway chunk of the ever – present “polar vortex” as the week progresses.


Group Rescued

A group of Bloomsburg University students and staff are lucky to be alive after a harrowing experience over the weekend when got stranded on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. It is the highest peak in the northeast. Our media partner Newswatch 16 is reporting four of the fifteen hikers with BU's Quest program got separated from the group and had to endure frigid temperatures and wind gusts of nearly 100 miles an hour before they were rescued. One person was treated for frostbite... but overall they're in good shape.


Flood Meeting

Getting closer to breaking ground and constructing a flood wall around two of Bloomsburg's major businesses. Now... a meeting will be held next Tuesday designed to take the wraps off what that flood wall around Autoneum and Windsor Foods will look like when their finally constructed. SEDA – COG's Glenda Ruch says questions asked a year ago will be answered about the effects the flood wall will have on surrounding properties. The meeting to be held at the Bloomsburg High School Cafeteria starting at 7 O'clock.


National Flood Insurance
A north central Pennsylvania state lawmaker says changes to the National Flood Insurance program will have a "disastrous" impact on premiums. The federal Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 is intended to make the National Flood Insurance Program self-sufficient, and it moves policies to full actuarial rates. State Senator Gene Yaw of neighboring Lycoming County says homeowners who need flood insurance have or will soon see their premiums skyrocket. A public hearing on the matter will be held next Tuesday at 9:30AM in Hearing Room 1 of the North Office Building in Harrisburg.


Fire Hall Politics

Congressman Lou Barletta and PA U.S. Senator Pat Toomey will be in Bloomsburg Tuesday to discuss legislation to protect volunteer first responders from federal mandates when it comes to Obama Care. During the past couple of weeks... Barletta and Toomey have been putting the pressure on the Obama administration not to count volunteer first responders... such as firemen and EMS personnel as full – time employees to determine if they fall under the requirements of the health care law. Both men... plus State Senator John Gordner of Berwick and State Representative David Millard... and county officials are expected to be a news conference at the Bloomsburg Fire Department on Market Street.


Energy / Corbett

Governor Tom Corbett and his entourage will be in southern Lycoming County Tuesday afternoon. There... he'll launch his so – called “Energy = Jobs” at the PA College of Technology's Earth Science Center in Montgomery. According to a release from the Governor's office... “Energy = Jobs” reflects Mr. Corbett's vision and commitment to position the commonwealth as a national leader in both energy and natural resources. Today's launch takes place at the Center on Allenwood Camp Lane.



A lot of you have probably made a New Years resolution to eat healthier and lose some weight... but most don't adhere to that. Now... there is an incentive at the Bloomsburg YMCA on 7th Street... with their Fresh and Fitness Challenge... so says the Y's Chris Fuller. Ms. Fuller says the three month program is being held in association with the Subway Restaurant on East Main Street in Bloomsburg. Call the “Y” for more information.


Gas Prices

Pinching pennies..... The price of a gallon of self – serve, unleaded gas continues to fall. The latest Triple A Fuel Gauge report shows we're paying an average of $3.49 a gallon... the same as the weekend... and off four cents from a week ago.


Hanover Twp

A case of solidified acid sent the Scranton bomb squad to the Hanover Industrial Park... in Luzerne County on Monday. Cops swarmed over the Bridon American Plant... where they discovered an acid used for treating steel ropes evaporated... and turned solid. Dozens of workers were forced to evacuate the plant... but they were never in danger.


Wilkes – Barre Robbery

Wilkes – Barre police are investigating a weekend robbery of a man in the parking lot of the Holy Redeemer High School. The incident happened Sunday night after meeting a man at the Martz Bus station. As the pair walked under the South Street Bridge... the man pulled a weapon... relieving the victim of his iPhone and wallet.


Lofty Dam

The Mahanoy Township Authority now says the mandated upgrade of the Lofty Dam... south of Hazleton... will include structural testing of the spillway. That is required in the work to raise the breast of the dam... rehab upstream embankments and repair outlets. Lofty Dam is in upper Schuylkill County... and is an impoundment area providing water to several municipalities.

BU Basketball

Bloomsburg University junior Jocelyn Ford is the PSAC Eastern Division player of the week. Ford averaged 20 points, five an a half rebounds and 6 assists in leading the Huskies to wins over East Stroudsburg and West Chester. Wednesday night, the Huskies play Mansfield at Nelson Field House.


Boys HS Basketball

In boys high school basketball last night, in a key game in the Heartland Conference Division I, Shamokin was at Danville. In a game heard on the WHLM Stations... Sports Director Jim Doyle reporting that Danville defeated Shamokin 64 – 58.


Girls Basketball 

In girls basketball last night... Southern Columbia downed Williamsport 65 – 55... Danville outscored Loyalsock 56 – 41.



In the NBA Monday... the Washington Wizards defeated the Philadelphia 76er's 107 – 99...



In the NHL... the New York Islanders skated by the Philadelphia Flyers 4 to 3..
