The Columbia County United Way's winter Trash-to-Treasure sale is just one week away! Saturday, Jan. 11th, get your hands on second-hand computers, furniture, appliances and other great stuff. Edward Snowden - Hero or Traitor? That's the question this month's Socrates Cafe meeting will try to tackle on Tuesday night at the Bloomsburg Public Librairy. Bring your opinions. Discussion starts at 6:30 PM at the Librairy on Market Street.

 

Wesley United Methodist Church on Market Street in Bloomsburg will host a blood drive this Wednesday in honor of Dan Gensemer. The drive will run from 1 - 6 PM in the church gymnasium.

 

The Christmas season officially comes to a close at the Bloomsburg Public Librairy on Thursday night with the annual Twelfth Night program of stories, songs, and crafts. Your good listeners age three and up are invited to drop by at 6:30 PM to see the tree and Grand Castle illuminated for the last time. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The librairy is on Market Street in Bloomsburg.

 

It's time to sign up for Little League in 2014! Sign ups and registration for Baseball and Softball will be held at the Moose Exchange on Saturday the 11th from 9 AM - Noon, and on Tuesday the 14th from 5 - 8 PM. You can sign up online at eteamz.com/bloomsburglittleleague - though payment must be made in person on the 11th or the 14th. The Moose Exchange Arts and Cultural Center is on Main Street in downtown Bloomsburg.

BU Basketball

In college basketball Friday afternoon, the Huskies of BU won both their games versus Clarion in their first action of the new year. The Women's final was 72-52. The Men's final was 61-53.

 

On Saturday, the Huskies split a pair of games against new Conference members Pitt-Johnstown. The Women won convincingly, 90-64. The Men's game was delayed just before halftime due to a medical emergency in the stands. Both teams came back strong, fighting it out to a 71-69 win for Pitt-Johnstown.

 

The Huskies will be on the road for their next games, when they will travel to IUP on Wednesday night.

 

HS Basketball

In High School Hoops this weekend, the boys from Central Columbia faced arch-rivals Bloomsburg in a Saturday night game. Central came out on top 36-22.

 

Our next High School backetball broadcast will be Monday night, when the Bloomsburg girls play at Southern Columbia. Coverage on the WHLM stations gets under way after the 7PM news.
