Plane Crash

Who were those two people aboard a twin engine Piper Comanche... and why did the plane crash in a rural Adams County field near Gettysburg. That's what National Transportation Safety Board investigators are trying to figure out... But there is a twist in the probe. The Press - Enterprise is reporting in Friday's edition that the flight began early Thursday morning at the Bloomsburg Airport. Whatever the case... the plane was about 30 minutes into it's flight when it apparently developed engine trouble. Mike Wertz lives near the area of the crash.. telling WGAL - TV news that he heard the crash and thought it was at a near - by intersection. Authorities say autopsies will be preformed on the bodies of the two people to get a positive identification. No word where the ill - fated flight was headed.


Funeral Services

No word yet on funeral services for former Bloomsburg Police Chief Larry Smith. He died Thursday while shoveling snow from his driveway at his Montour Township home. Smith was Bloomsburg's top cop for nearly two decades... first joining the force back in 1968. In recent years, he worked as a security guard at the Columbia County Courthouse. Former Bloomsburg Police Chief Larry Smith was 80.


Drinking / Driving

We're entering the last weekend of 2013... and there are still party's to be held... and that means cops are on the watch for impaired drivers. Bloomsburg PD Sgt. Leonard Rogutski says if you plan to imbibe... make sure you have a designated driver... since judgment and reaction time begin to dull after the first drink. Sgt. Rogutski says officers across Columbia and Montour will be out this weekend.... as well as New Years Eve to keep impaired drivers off the highway.


Millard / Lottery

The controversial process of privatizing management of the Pennsylvania lottery may have to start over. State lawmakers are tinkering with legislation that would privatize the lottery system, which could cause the Corbett administration to back up and rebid the current deal with Britain's Camelot Global Services. Some Democrats have called on the Governor to rebid the deal.


Hazleton Robbery

The man who robbed a PNC Bank in Hazleton on Thursday remains on the loose. It happened at the corner of Broad and Church Streets. A witness telling police the man strolled in and handed the teller a note. The bandit getting away with some money... leaving a couple of hundred on the floor when he fled. If you have information about the crime... call Hazleton Police.


NEPA Gas prices

The price of a gallon of self - serve, unleaded regular gasoline is creeping up. The latest Triple - A Fuel Gauge report shows that gas prices across northeastern Pennsylvania is averaging $3.45 a gallon. That's up a penny from Wednesday... and up six cents from a week ago. The reason... the demand for gas is higher than what it's been in the past few weeks.


Football League

Officials of the Hazleton Area Football League have instituted safeguards so one one else can take money from their bank account. We told you last week that Colleen Bresnock admitted she made off with an estimated $8,500 to pay bills. Now, one league official says the organization has taken steps from being ripped off in the future. Although she is giving back the money... Bresnock still faces court charges. The League teaches football... competition and sportsmanship

Boys Basketball

The Danville High School boys basketball team plays the Academy of New Church Friday night in the opening game of a holiday tournament at Pine Grove High School. The Southern Columbia boys play North Schuylkill tonight in the first game of the Milton Holiday tournament.


Girls Basketball

In girls basketball Friday afternoon at 4:30... Southern Columbia plays Lourdes Regional in the first game of the Knights of Columbus tournament at Shamokin High School.


Judy Knorr Tournament

At Berwick, the annual Judy Knorr tournament begins Friday night. The Central Columbia girls play Dallas in the first game at 6 O'clock. That will be followed by Berwick against Selinsgrove.


College Bowl Games

In college football bowl games Thursday night... in the Little Caesars Bowl in Detroit... Pittsburgh just got by Bowling Green 30 to 27. In the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego... Utah State crushed Northern Illinois 21 to 7.



Two Divisional titles will be on the line this Sunday when the NFL regular season comes to an end. Sunday afternoon the Green Bay Packers play the Bears in Chicago for the NFC North title and Sunday night... the Philadelphia Eagles play the Cowboys in Dallas for the NFC East title.
