Danville Fire

One person is dead after a fire swept through a Danville home Monday afternoon. Our media partner Newswatch 16 is reporting 88 – year old Eugene Yohn died when the fire broke out in his home. His wife, Doris, made it out of the house safely. Fire company's were dispatched around 1:30 to 11 Cross Street... just behind Dunkin' Donuts. A state police fire marshal says it's believed the fire started on a side porch of the home where several oxygen tanks were kept. Their probe continues.

 

Uni-Mart Arrest

He was already in jail... accused of robbing the Mifflinville Market earlier this month.... and now 22 – year old Andrew Klingerman is charged with allegedly holding up the Uni – Mart on Lightstreet Road last Monday. BloomUtoday is reporting the Mifflinville man wore the same clothing that was used in the convenience store heist. Not only is Klingerman accused of the two robberies... but also violating his probation. He remains remains in the Columbia County Prison.

 

Shamokin Cop Shop

Shamokin's City Council has given their okay to a 2014 budget. It came during Monday night's meeting... and calls for the elimination of two full - time... as well as two part - time meter officers. It's designed to help close the city's 600 - thousand dollar budget gap. Originally... Chief Ed Griffiths was prepared to loose four full time officers... cutting his department nearly in half. Now... the nine other officers will take care of the slack created by the furloughs.

 

Airport Safety Questioned

We should know within the next month or so if the federal government will address a safety concern at the Wilkes - Barre / Scranton Airport in Avoca. The sequential landing lights leading to Runway 4 during inclement weather have been out of service since the first of the year... and according to US Senator Bob Casey... it could lead to cancellation of commercial flights. It's believed the system could be fixed at a cost from $2 to $5 - million dollars.

 

Tamaqua Meth Lab

Tamaqua authorities brought down a suspected meth lab... arresting four people in the process over the weekend. Cops say the home... and adjoining properties were evacuated. The six people inside the building, including a six month old baby, we're decontaminated... with four of the adults taken to jail.

Girls HS Basketball

The Danville and Southern Columbia girls basketball teams were both unbeaten going into last night's game at Danville. But it was the Lady Ironmen to emerge unscathed... defeating Southern 49 to 26.

 

Other BB Games

In boys basketball Monday night... Millville downed Northwest 57 to 38.

 

NFL / Monday

In the NFL Monday night, in the final regular season game ever to be played at Candlestick Park in San Francisco... the 49er's got past the Atlanta Falcons 34 to 24.

 

NHL / Monday

In the National Hockey League Monday night... the Philadelphia Flyers skated past Minnesota 4 to 1... while Ottawa blanked the Pittsburgh Penguins 5 to nothing.
