He was already in jail... accused of robbing the Mifflinville Market earlier this month.... and now 22 – year old Andrew Klingerman is charged with allegedly holding up the Uni – Mart on Lightstreet Road last Monday. The Press – Enterprise is reporting the Mifflinville man wore the same clothing that was used in the convenience store heist. Not only is Klingerman accused of the two robberies... but also violated his probation. He remains remains in the Columbia County Prison.

Holiday Travel

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The holiday highway travel period got underway Sunday night... and the Triple A's Ginny Robinson says travelers get an extra day.... but that's not the only factor with folks taking the entire week for vacation. And although the Susquehanna Valley and the nation are recovering from a five year long economic recession... the Triple – A's Robinson says the year – end holiday's are not as susceptible to economic conditions.

Millard / Budget

There is a real possibility that the state of Pennsylvania may not make their budget revenue projections by the end of June. That has State Budget Secretary Charles Zogby worried... as well as State Representative David Millard of Columbia County. It could occur if “structural deficits” start popping up. Those includes programs mandated and paid for by the federal government... but the state could be on the hook if the fed's don't pay. And that could put the state government in a bind... so much so... it could leave a deficit to make up as we enter the new fiscal year on July 1st of 2014.

Shamokin Police

A vote on Shamokin's 2014 budget will take place Monday night... and if it's adopted the city's police force could be cut in half. The city is facing a $600,000 budget shortfall... and Police Chief Ed Griffiths' could be forced to cut six of thirteen officers. The blame is being placed squarely on the shoulders of the city clerk Steve Bartos. Griffiths says Shamokin has the busiest police department in Northumberland County... answer an estimated 6,000 calls already this year.

Susquehanna River

If you go by the Susquehanna River sometime today... you may be seeing a rapid rise. That's due to a lot of rain dumped over the weekend in the Susquehanna watershed of New York State. The National Weather Service is predicting the Susquehanna in Bloomsburg will rise to 12.7 feet by 1 O'clock Tuesday morning and quickly recede. No low level flooding is expected since the river would have to rise to 19 feet to get into low-lying structures. The 12.7 - foot mark is five feet lower than originally forecast over the weekend.

Obamacare / Firemen

There's fear the Affordable Care Act could hurt volunteer fire companies... and it has to do with the employer mandate portion of the law. Now.. 11th District Congressman Lou Barletta of Hazleton has introduced a measure to exempt them from the mandate. There's fear it could force fire companies to shut down if it were enforced. In essence... organizations with 50 or more full time equivalent employees will be required to offer health care coverage or face a fine in 2015. The IRS considers volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians as employees for tax purposes.

Burglary Arrest

Police in Nanticoke have arrested two men for burglary. But now authorities want to know if there is a connection between Earl Hoopingarner and Shane Hempel both of Nanticoke... and the murder of a 97 year old woman. Gertrude Price was killed Thanksgiving night when someone tried to burglarize her home. They're tracking down the men's whereabouts in order to see if they're involved in the Price murder.
