Cold Shot

Our first shot of cold weather for the season has arrived across the region. The mild temperatures seen in parts of our area on Veterans Day will quickly come to an end as a strong cold front sweeps through the region. Behind it... rain and snow showers and a massive amount of cold weather. Temps Tuesday will only get into the 30's. Clouds will give way to clearing with temperatures plunging into lower 20's Tuesday night.


Montour County Fire

Investigators are looking for the cause of a Monday morning house fire in Montour County. Montour and Columbia County fire crews.... including an engine and a tanker from Millville were called out around to Degreen Road... in Derry Township... near Danville. Firefighters say they found smoke billowing out of the roof of the one story modular structure. The residents.... 65 – year old Louise Travelpiece... and her daughter, 47 – year old Angela Gross were at work when the fire was discovered. Gross’s son, 14 – year old Matthew was at an aunt’s house in Danville.


Benner – Hudock Center

Bloomsburg University dedicated the Benner – Hudock Center for Financial Analysis in Sutliff Hall Monday. 1975 BU graduate Barbara Benner Hudock has made her mark in the financial world through Hudock Moyer Wealth Resources... a company she established in Williamsport. Ms. Hudock spoke about her BU roots and the importance of professors and instructors. The Hudock family has been instrumental in making donations to the university over the years... and making a difference in the lives of students.


Corbett Reelection

Governor Corbett has been stumping the state ever since he made an announcement he planned to seek a second term. A staunch supporter is State Representative David Millard of North Center Township.

Representative Millard says the governor has tried to contain several issues affecting the state such as inheriting a multi – billion dollar deficit. Meantime up to eight Democratic candidates are seeking to take on Mr. Corbett in next November's general election. However, the Dems will have an internal fight as they head for the primary next March.


Sherman Hills

A 21 - year old man is in custody... charged the the death of of a woman... shot three times at the Sherman Hills apartment complex in Wilkes – Barre.

Kenneth Evans the Third is charged with criminal homicide in the death of Shantique Goodson. The death of Goodson is the 13th homicide in Wilkes – Barre this year. Police say Goodson was arguing with two men... one of them Evans... when three gunshots were fired. The woman later died at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.



Police in the Wyoming Valley says they're investigating a rash of vandalism over the weekend. In essence... BB and pellet guns were used to break windows... sending automobile glass everywhere. Most of the cases dozens of shattered windows were confined to Wilkes – Barre, but some was reported in Kingston and Plains Township. No one has been charged in the vandalism.


Wilkes - Barre Fire

An apparent vacant building in the old Murray Complex on South Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilkes – Barre caught fire Monday. Fire crews were called out shortly after day break. Right now.... investigators are looking for a cause... since no utilities were hooked up to the building.



Feeding and watching wild birds in the winter is a common cold-weather hobby for Pennsylvanians. Taking care of our wild feathered friends is one way to soothe Cabin Fever when the winter days get cold and short. Jon Dale of the Appalachian Audubon Society, says birds can fend for themselves, but appreciate supplemental feeding. He adds that winter bird watching can be enjoyed in any setting and says the type of food offered can influence what types of birds that show up. He says a seed mixture tends the draw the widest variety.


Health Care Impact

A new study says the economic impact of the health care industry in Pennsylvania continues grow. The report, commissioned by the PA Homecare Association, indicates the industry is growing and its positive impact is staying within commonwealth borders. Paul Umbach, president of Tripp Umbach, which conducted the study, said the setting where many of the services used to be offered, has changed and that personal care and home health aide jobs are projected to grow by 70% in the next several years.

BU Football

After Saturday's 31-28 win over previously unbeaten West Chester, the Bloomsburg University football team has moved up to 3rd in the Super Region One rankings. The top 6 teams in those ranking at the end of play on Saturday will make it to the NCAA playoffs. The Huskies play Slippery Rock Saturday in the PSAC championship game at Danny Hale Field in Redman Stadium. Game time is 12:30.


BU Basketball

The BU Men's team rallied back after their season-opening loss last Friday to take a 79-61 win in their Home opener against PSU-Hazleton on Tuesday night. You can hear all the details with Jim Doyle in the WHLM Husky Post Game Report:



SC Girls Soccer

The Southern Columbia girls soccer team is two wins away from a state championship. Tuesday night the Tigers play Tulpehocken at Hamburg High School in a Class A state semifinal.



In the NFL Monday night... The Tampa Bay Buccaneers getting by the Miami Dolphins 22 to 19.



In the NBA... the San Antonio Spurs outscored the Philadelphia 76er's 109 to 85.
