Corbett Reelection

Governor Corbett has been stumping the state ever since he made an announcement he planned to seek a second term. A staunch supporter is State Representative David Millard of North Center Township. Representative Millard says the governor has tried to contain several issues affecting the state such as a budget deficit he recieved from the Rendell administration... and balloning state pensions. Mean time up to eight Democratic candidates are seeking to take on Mr. Corbett in next November's general election. However, the Dems will have an internal fight as they head for the primary next March.

 

Montour Fire

Investigators are looking for the cause of a house fire in Montour County Monday morning. Montour and Columbia County fire crews.... including an engine and a tanker from Millville were called out around 5 O'clock Monday morning to Degreen Road... in Derry Township... near Danville. Firefighters say they found smoke billowing out of the roof of the one story modular structure. Fire crews have yet to say if anyone was inside the building when the flames erupted.

 

Veterans Day Parade

Thousands of people lined the streets of Bloomsburg Saturday for the annual Veterans Day Parade... remembering those who fought and served. The procession went south on Lightstreet Road... to Main Street... making a hard left at Market. At the Bloomsburg Fire Hall... Greg Moore of VFW Post 804 talked about Veterans Day during a quick ceremony. A meal was served to vets as a “thank you” for the time they spent in the military... protecting our country.

 

Berwick Police Investigations

The huge influx of meth making in Berwick in 2012.... and this year... has not gone away. That word from Berwick Police Chief Ken Strish. During a recent interview... Chief Strish said his men continue to investigate tips the department is getting. Chief Strish says his investigation and the capturing of drug suspects couldn't happen without the help of outside agencies from State and Federal governments.

 

Man Captured

A Berwick man is in the Columbia County Prison Monday morning after trying to flee from South Centre Township police. The Press – Enterprise and other media outlets are reporting... the chase started when Stephen Whitenight allegedly urinated in public and police were called to the Pleasant View Mobile Home Park... off of Ft. Jenkins Lane. Whitenight tried to give them the slip and ended up in the Susquehanna River. Lime Ridge firemen were called in to rescue Whitenight off an island. Bloomsburg Firefighters launched their Marine unit. Whitenight was eventually brought back to land... arraigned last night in Danville... then taken to the prison.

 

Freeland Fire

A Freeland family of eight was made homeless over the weekend after a malfunctioning wood burner sent flames shooting from the chimney. Firemen were called to the 400 block of Ridge Street... and they found an overheated wood burning stove in the second floor apartment. That family was displaced and assisted by the American Red Cross.

 

Church Fire

The congregation of a church in downtown Hazleton are still cleaning up for a fire in a kitchen which sent an oily coating of soot through the sanctuary of the House of Worship on East Broad Street late Thursday night. But, the pastor of the church believes they're going to have to call in professional's to clean up the mess. No services were held at the church on Sunday.

 

Wilkes – Barre Demolition

If you're headed to Wilkes – Barre on Monday... a word of caution if you're headed to south Main Street... just off of Public Square. Four buildings in the area will to fall to the wrecking ball Monday. The demolition is expected to run nearly two weeks. The project stems from an engineering firms believe that the four building from 61 to 75 Main Street are in danger of collapsing.

 

LIHEAP

Slightly more than one in every ten Pennsylvania households is expected to get federal taxpayer assistance in paying their heating bills this winter, based on state data. The federal government recently released $2.9 - billion in tax dollars for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to mostly northern states to assist households that are unable to pay their own heating bills. A spokesperson for the state Department of Public Welfare says Pennsylvania will receive between $175 - million and $190 - million of that total.

BU Football

For the first time since 1985, a PSAC football championship game will be played at Danny Hale Field in Redman Stadium. The Huskies clinched a spot in the title game with Saturday's 31-28 win over previously unbeaten West Chester. In the process, Bloomsburg swept individual honors in the PSAC East. Senior Franklyn Quiteh is the offensive player of the week. He ran for 154 yards and a touchdown, going over 7000 career yards and setting PSAC records for touchdowns and total points.

Junior linebacker Justin Shirk won defensive honors. Shirk recorded 16 tackles. Saturday at 12:30 the Huskies will play Slippery Rock for the PSAC title.

 

NFL / Sunday

In the NFL yesterday, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Buffalo Bills 23-10... the New York Giants got by the Oakland Raiders 24-20... and the Philadelphia Eagles downed the Green Bay Packers 27-13.

 

NFL / Monday

Monday night's game is the Miami Dolphins battling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
