What's Happening Saturday, October 19, 2013


The Free Saturday Trains program is open at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church from 10:00 AM to Noon. They feature their talking train and a model merry go round that adults and kids can play with. The church is located at the corner of Pine and East Market Streets in Danville.

The Children's Museum presents Haunted Museum Day on Saturday October 19th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They invite your kids out for the spooky decorations, ghoulish crafts, mysterious activities, and science demonstrations. Wear a costume for $1.00 off admission. The children's museum is located on West 7th Street in Bloomsburg.

The Free Wheelchair Engineers Train Program at the Columbia Mall is open each Saturday from Noon to 4:00 PM. The display is up and running with the American Flyer and Dillon Floral limited-edition train with the puffing MTH steam engine.

SMILE is happy to announce that they will now host meetings in Bloomsburg and Berwick. SMILE is a group for single mothers to get together for support and friendship. Meetings in Bloomsburg will be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Bloomsburg Christian Church. In Berwick at the New Covenant Christian Center on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Central Susquehanna Sight Services are hosting a car raffle. They’re giving a way a 2013 Honda Insight Hybrid with 40 second prizes valued at $100. You can get tickets now for the November 14th drawing. Raffle tickets are a donation of $15.00 per ticket. Look for Central Susquehanna Sight Services at area events to enter. Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble opens up their new season with William Shakespeare's “The Merchant of Venice.” Public performances will be held Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 PM from October 3rd to October 20th. For information call the Alvina Krasue Theatre on Centre Street in Downtown Bloomsburg.

Hartzels Haunted Chambers will open each weekend in Berwick starting Friday the 4th of October. Admission is $5.00, and the haunted chambers will be open each Friday Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 to 11:00 PM. They're located at the corner of 11th and Vine Streets in Berwick.

Downtown Jim Thorpe presents fall foliage weekends the first three weekends of October. There will be train rides, crafters, artisans, food, and live entertainment throughout the town. All of the fun is happening in Downtown Jim Thorpe.

Shiloh Bible Church invites you to a concert featuring the Jacobs Brothers on Saturday October 19th at 7:00 PM. The church is located on Church Street in Almedia.

Bloomsburg / Mifflinburg

In their final home game of the season, the Bloomsburg high school football team defeated Mifflinburg by a score of 24-13. The Wagner's Trophies and Engraveables Player of the Game was Bloomsburg's Colby Klingerman.

 

Berwick Football

The unbeaten Bulldogs of Berwick stay unbeaten following their 50-0 trouncing of Pittston Area at Crispin Field on Friday.

 

HS Games

In other Friday night games... Danville beat Shikellamy 45-7, unbeaten Southern Columbia shut out Shamokin 56-0, and Central Columbia fell to Lewisburg 28-6. Saturday afternoon, Columbia Montour Vo - Tech is at home against Carson Long.

 

BU Football

In college football Saturday, the unbeaten Huskies of Bloomsburg University battled it out with East Stroundsburg in a record-setting game at ESU. The Huskies come away with a 52-38 victory. BU's Franklyn Quiteh set a new school record with 304 rushing yards in the game. You can hear all the details with Jim Doyle in the WHLM Husky Post Game Report:
