It's Bloomsburg University's Homecoming weekend! The Homecoming parade kicks off from the Hospital lot on Lightstreet Road at 11:00.
The American Cancer Society will host the 3rd annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Wal on Saturday October 12th at the Danville Area High School. Registration begins at 9:00 AM and the walk starts at 10:00 AM. More information is available at markingstrideswalk.org.
The Free Saturday Trains program is open at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church from 10:00 AM to Noon. They feature their talking train and a model merry go round that adults and kids can play with. The church is located at the corner of Pine and East Market Streets in Danville.
The Roaring Creek and Catawissa Valley Historical Study Groups present fall train rides from Catawissa to Northumberland on Saturday October 12th at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The rides leave and return from the Catawissa Legion. Cost is $20 per rider. Kids 2 and younger get a free lap ticket. Call 570-799-0700.
The Free Wheelchair Engineers Train Program at the Columbia Mall is open each Saturday from Noon to 4:00 PM. The display is up and running with the American Flyer and Dillon Floral limited-edition train with the puffing MTH steam engine.
The Central Susquehanna Valley Heart Walk will be held Saturday October 12th from noon to 3:00 PM at Knoebels in Elysburg. Registration is a noon the walk starts at 1:00 PM. Team up with family, friends or co-workers and join in on the walk.
SMILE is happy to announce that they will now host meetings in Bloomsburg and Berwick. SMILE is a group for single mothers to get together for support and friendship. Meetings in Bloomsburg will be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Bloomsburg Christian Church. In Berwick at the New Covenant Christian Center on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Central Susquehanna Sight Services are hosting a car raffle. They’re giving a way a 2013 Honda Insight Hybrid with 40 second prizes valued at $100. The Orangeville Public Library will host their 2nd annual scarecrow-decorating contest again this year. Registration and pick up of scarecrow frames is from September 16th through October 12th. Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble opens up their new season with William Shakespeare's “The Merchant of Venice.” Public performances will be ehdl Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 PM from October 3rd to October 20th. Hartzels Haunted Chambers will open each weekend in Berwick starting Friday the 4th of October. Admission is $5.00, and the haunted chambers will be open each Friday Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 to 11:00 PM. They're located at the corner of 11th and Vine Streets in Berwick.
Downtown Jim Thorpe presents fall foliage weekends the first three weekends of October. There will be train rides, crafters, artisans, food, and live entertainment throughout the town. All of the fun is happening in Downtown Jim Thorpe.
Berwick's Annual Riverfest is happening Friday to Sunday October 11th to the 13th. There will be a car cruise in, food, crafts, logging competition and a whole lot more. It's happening at the Test Track Park behind the K-Mart in Berwick.
Bloomsburg High School failed to upset unbeaten Southern Columbia in the WHLM game of the week. The final was 50-13 Tigers. The Wagner's Trophies and Engraveables Player of the Game was Southern's Adam Feudale.
In Bulldogs action on Classic Rock 103.5, Berwick put up 48 unanswered points against the Millionaires of Williamsport, final: 48-7.
In other local games, Montoursville beat Danville 21-10, Central Columbia beat Central Mountain 36-16, and Vo-Tech fell to Muncy 47-14.
