Deadly Crash

A fatal crash tied up traffic for about 12 hours on I80 westbound yesterday between Lewisburg and Mile Run. Police say a bus carrying 49 passengers hit the back of a tractor-trailer. Fourty-four people were taken to the hospital and one woman died. Police say the investigation will take some time. They will interview all of the passengers and find out exactly where they were when the crash happened.

 

Road Construction

A heavily-used intersection at the entrance to Bloomsburg University will get an upgrade to improve safety. The Penndot project includes Route 487 southbound gaining a left turn into BU's campus. A right lane turn-off to Country Club Road and a pass-through lane. Route 487 northbound from the town of Bloomsburg will gain a dedicated right lane onto campus, a left-turn lane onto Country Club Road and a pass-through lane. Traffic from BU's upper campus will get a right turn lane towards the town. The expected completion date is next fall.

 

Riverfest

Riverfest is coming to Berwick this weekend. This year's event includes a lumberjack contest along with plenty of other things to do and see. You'll be able to rent kayaks on Saturday. There will be a paddle trip from Shickshinny to the test track boat launch. The trip takes about four hours. Then on Saturday night they will have fireworks.

 

Can't Win

During the current slowdown Congressman Lou Barletta is hearing it from both sides. Conservatives said Barletta was getting soft for talking about a possible compromise, now a liberal group is running TV commercials that are critical of Barletta for what they say is his part in the slowdown. The group running the commercials is Americans United for Change.

 

Bullying Bill

The state House may soon take up a bill that would punish young cyber bullies. The bill would make cyber bullying between young people a third-degree misdemeanor. The bill's sponsor, Republican Ron Marsico of Dauphin County says he expects the House to take up the bill by the end of the month.

 

Shooting

A shooting on Wednesday night sent a man to the hospital. The Press Enterprise said the shooting happened on Lasalle Street in Berwick at about 7 pm. The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital with a wound to bis leg. Police are still looking for the shooter.

 

In WHLM Sports, The Millville boys soccer team shutout Benton on Wednesday night in the Cider Jug game. That game was broadcast on the WHLM stations. Millville got goals from Dave Sinegra, Tyler Fisk and two from Keegan Bower.
