Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble opens up their new season with William Shakespeare's “The Merchant of Venice.” Public performances will be held Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 PM from October 3rd to October 20th. For information call the Alvina Krasue Theatre on Centre Street in Downtown Bloomsburg.


The Free Saturday Trains program is open at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church from 10:00 AM to Noon. They feature their talking train and a model merry go round that adults and kids can play with. The church is located at the corner of Pine and East Market Streets in Danville.

The Free Wheelchair Engineers Train Program at the Columbia Mall is open each Saturday from Noon to 4:00 PM. The display is up and running with the American Flyer and Dillon Floral limited-edition train with the puffing MTH steam engine.

The Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society will host free fall seminars through November. Saturday October 5th they present a Cemetery Tour with Ann Diseroad and Steve Smith at the Old Rosemonth Cemetery. The tour starts at 3:00 PM. The Cemetery is located at First and Center Streets.

Straub's Lutheran Church of Danville will serve up a roast beef dinner on Saturday October 5th from 3:00 to 6:30 PM. Take outs will be available, and homemade ice cream will be sold by the quart. The church is on Frosty Valley Road.

SMILE is happy to announce that they will now host meetings in Bloomsburg and Berwick. SMILE is a group for single mothers to get together for support and friendship. Meetings in Bloomsburg will be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Bloomsburg Christian Church. In Berwick at the New Covenant Christian Center on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Central Susquehanna Sight Services are hosting a car raffle. They’re giving a way a 2013 Honda Insight Hybrid with 40 second prizes valued at $100. You can get tickets now for the November 14th drawing. Raffle tickets are a donation of $15.00 per ticket. Look for Central Susquehanna Sight Services at area events to enter. For information visit

The Orangeville Public Library will host their 2nd annual scarecrow-decorating contest again this year. Registration and pick up of scarecrow frames is from September 16th through October 12th. All decorated scarecrows will be put on display in front of the library. Voting begins October 14th. For more information visit the library located on Mill Street in Orangeville.

Grace Lutheran Church in Berwick is holding their 2013 Fall Bazaar on Friday October 4th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday October 5th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. There will be food, crafts, baked goods, and home cannned goods. The church is on Fairview ave in Berwick.

Hartzels Haunted Chambers will open each weekend in Berwick starting Friday the 4th of October. Admission is $5.00, and the haunted chambers will be open each Friday Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 to 11:00 PM. They're located at the corner of 11th and Vine Streets in Berwick.

Wesley United Methodist Church presents the semi-annual Crusaders Rummage Sale Friday October 4th from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday October 5th from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Donations benefit missions. The church is located at the corner of 3rd and Market Streets in Bloomsburg.

The Lairdsville Community Volunteer Fire Company invites you to their 3rd annual fall festival on Saturday October 5th. Doors open at 1:00 PM. There's a Chicken barbeque, firemen's parade, Music by the Greenwood Valley Boys, and a bonefire. The fire company is located on Route 118 East of Hughesville.

Downtown Jim Thorpe presents fall foliage weekends the first three weekends of October. There will be train rides, crafters, artisans, food, and live entertainment throughout the town. All of the fun is happening in Downtown Jim Thorpe.

The Defender Fire Company is hosting a ladies day out on Saturday October 5th with vendors and more. There's no charge for admission. Food will be available. The fire company is located at the corner of Pine and 6th Streets in Berwick.

The 32nd Annual Warrior Run-Fort Freeland Hertiage Days are happening October 5th and 6th. Adults are $6, students $2, and children under 5 are free. For information visit

HS Football

In our high school football Game of the Week Bloomsburg defeated visiting Muncy bay a final score of 27-8. the Wagner's Trophies and Engraveables Player of the Game was Bloom's Ricky Klingerman. In Berwick action, the Bulldogs trounced Tunkhannock 50-3. In other local action, Southern Columbia beat Selinsgrove 54-14, Danville beat Jersey Shore 24-7, and Central Columbia fell to Mount Carmel 36-22.

BU Football
The unbeaten Bloomsburg University Huskies stayed unbeaten after beating back the Gannon Golden Knights Saturday in Erie. The final score was a hard-fought 38-14 BU win. Listen to all the details with Jim Doyle in the WHLM Husky Post Game Report:
