What's Happening Saturday, September 21, 2013


It's the opening day of the 158th Bloomsburg Fair. One item guests will see is a new and improved Skyride, giving all of us a birds eye view of the fair grounds. Fair President Paul Reichart said during the debut of the ride last year state amusement inspectors only allowed 60 cars on the ride. That number has been doubled to the ride's maximum of 120 cars. There is lots of food, crafts, vendors, and daily entertainment. It’s happening at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.

 

Roaring Creek Valley United Methodist Church is hosting their monthly breakfast for a donation this Saturday from 7:00 to 9:30 AM. They’re serving bacon, eggs, toast, French toast, ham, sausage, pancakes, and more. Donations will go to the CROP Walk. The church is located on Orchard Drive.

The 24th annual Hegins Valley Arts and Crafts Fair is happening Saturday September 21st from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There will be over 200 vendors and a variety of foods starting with breakfast at 7:00 AM. It’s happening rain or shine. Hegins Park is located off of exit 112 on Interstate 81.

The Children’s Museum invites your kids to Dinosaur Day on Saturday September 21st from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Learn about dinosaurs, go on a dinosaur hunt, make fossil crafts, and more. Wear a dinosaur on your shirt for a dollar off admission. The Children’s Museum is located at 2 West Seventh Street in Bloomsburg.

The Free Saturday Trains program is open at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church from 10:00 AM to Noon. They feature their talking train and a model merry go round that adults and kids can play with. The church is located at the corner of Pine and East Market Streets in Danville.

Artspace Gallery will open an exhibit featuring new clay work by Sara Baker and fiber by Denise Richards on Thursday August 22nd. Recordings of music composed by Sean Richards Teeter will play during the show. The show runs through September 29th with an opening reception on August 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

The Free Wheelchair Engineers Train Program at the Columbia Mall is open each Saturday from Noon to 4:00 PM. The display is up and running with the American Flyer and Dillon Floral limited-edition train with the puffing MTH steam engine.

SMILE is happy to announce that they will now host meetings in Bloomsburg and Berwick. SMILE is a group for single mothers to get together for support and friendship. Meetings in Bloomsburg will be held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Bloomsburg Christian Church. In Berwick at the New Covenant Christian Center on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Berwick Football

The Berwick High School football team beat Wyoming Valley West for the first time since 2008 when the two unbeaten teams met at Crispin Field Friday night. The Final was 42-28.

 

Game of the Week

Central Columbia played its home opener Friday against Milton in the first game played on the Blue Jays new artificial turf. Milton took away the victory in that game 32-20.

 

In other action Friday night, Southern Columbia remains unbeaten after defeating South Williamsport 48-14,  Bloomsburg fell to Jersey Shore in Overtime 21-14, and unbeaten Danville stays unbeaten after a 37-13 win against Mifflinburg. Saturday afternoon Columbia Montour Vo Tech hosts Bucktail Area.
