One man is in police custody after he allegedly stabbed a second man several time.
State Police arresting Joseph Dunn in Benton this week. Our media partner... Newswatch 16 is reporting that Dunn allegedly stabbed another man along Route 254 in Benton Township. The victim was rushed to Geisinger Medical Center where he's recovering from multiple stab wounds. Dunn is facing several charges... including attempted homicide.
Hundreds of people turned out yesterday for a senior expo in Elysburg hosted by State Representative Kurt Masser. It was the third time those over sixth had a chance of get out of their homes... and travel to All Home Days Park to take a look at what vendors offered and to chat with Representative Masser about issues taking place in Harrisburg.

Classes at Bloomsburg University will resume Thursday morning... after they were abruptly canceled Wednesday afternoon when the power went out. A university spokesperson says an electrical short circuit to the main service supplying juice to the campus... failed Wednesday afternoon.... throwing the entire campus in the dark. Crews from Pennsylvania Power and Light restored service to the upper campus area... then began fixing the outage on the lower campus. Power was restored overnight.
Remembering the victims of the 9-11 attacks on America. Bugler Gary O'Neal in front of the Jackson Mansion on Market Street in Berwick on Tuesday paying tribute to the nearly 3000 people who died at the World Trade Center in New York City... the Pentagon in Northern Virginia... and a lonely farmer's field in Somerset County near Shanksville. O'Neal says it's part of an organization that remembers 9-11. O'Neal playing taps in front of the Ranger Hose Company... at the Reliance Fire Hall... the Nescopeck AMVETS... arriving to play at the Jackson Mansion.
Two years after the floods produced by Tropical Storm Lee devastated the area... Lewisburg – based SEDA – COG will hold a workshop later this month... dealing with the Susquehanna River. SEDA – COG's Trish Carothers says this is an opportunity to learn about the Susquehanna and the 70 communities it effects. The workshop takes place September 30th at the Kehr Union building on the Bloomsburg University campus.
A PennDOT highway maintenance crew in Columbia County will begin a paving project on Mainville Drive in Catawissa and Main townships next Monday. Work will take about two weeks to wrap up. Starting Monday... the crew will be working on the hill between Route 487 and Sycamore Drive. The section of the road will be detoured during daylight hours.
Masser / Senior Expo
Representative Kurt Masser who takes care of Columbia, Montour and Northumberland Counties in Harrisburg is hosting his annual Senior Expo on Thursday at All Home Days Park in Elysburg. The event begins at 10 O'clock... and several hundred people are expected to attend. With the expo underway... Representative Masser's offices will be closed in Elysburg and Danville, but will reopen Friday.
A 33 – year old White Haven man is free after state police arrested him on a number of sex related charges. State Police at Hazleton says 33 – year old Jason Lyman is accused of having unlawful contact with an underage girl at various locations in the Mountain Top area. Police finding an estimated 1,500 messages between Lyman and the girl until the two were discovered last May. Lyman was arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
Luzerne County Employees
Luzerne County employees will start working 40 hours a week starting in 2014. They had been working 37 and a half hours. The County Council approving the lengthen hours when they met this week. County Manager Robert Lawton says the straight 40 hour week will make it easier to administer payroll and manager offices.
An environmental group is supporting stronger regulation of power plant emissions, citing federal data that shows Pennsylvania power plants rank third in carbon emissions. Seven PA power plants... including one in Montour County... rank among the top 100 most polluting in the country based on carbon emissions according to PennEnvironment. All are coal-fired plants - Brunner Island in York County, the PPL Montour Plant in Montour County... as well as five plants in southwestern PA.
The summer took a tragic toll at pools and spas this summer. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the danger still exists. The C-P-S-C says more than 200 children under age 14 drowned in pools and spas between Memorial Day and Labor Day...with 9 of the deaths in Pennsylvania. The majority of the victims were under age 5. The agency says its important to put up barriers and have constant supervision of young children around the water, and teach water safety at the earliest age possible.
