After being shut down for ten hours... the westbound lane of Interstate 80 is now opened. It was shut down around midnight after a tanker truck hauling 7,500 gallons of a gasoline / diesel fuel mixture overturned near the State Route 487 overpass. The accident happened moments after midnight. Lightstreet fire chief Darren Shaffer telling us the driver lost control of the big rig... with the cab separating from the tanker... and rolling over several times. The tanker overturned at least once. Shaffer said the driver got out of the crushed cab under his own power... and was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment of minor injuries.
A Berwick man faces up to 15 – years in prison after he admits to driving drunk without a license... and running down a man on a bicycle who was on his way home from work a year ago. Our media partner... Newswatch 16 is reporting 18 – year old Joseph Rish pleading guilty in Columbia County court to a homicide by vehicle charge in the death of Robert Mohr. Mohr was struck and killed as he rode his bike from the Denny's restaurant in Lightstreet to his home along Ridge Road in North Center Township.
A big push is underway to construct a Veterans Memorial in Bloomsburg by next spring. So Bloomsburg Town Council Monday night... giving its approval to its placement in the middle of lower Market Street... in Town Park. Council member Diane Levan is one person spearheading the project... hoping to raise $500,000 dollars for construction and perpetual care. Council will also get the final design of the memorial when they meet next month.
Thanks to a state grant funnel through PennDOT from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration... Bloomsburg Police are doing their part to try and stem a growing problem of aggressive driving. Interim Police Chief Roger Van Loan says the biggest problem is on West Main Street... near the Moose Exchange at Jefferson Street. Interim Chief Van Loan says that's where aggressive drivers are ticketed and sent on their way. The aggressive driving program runs through the end of the month.

Pump prices are holding steady for self – serve unleaded regular gas across northeast Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Triple – A Fuel Gauge latest report shows we're paying an average of $3.61 a gallon... the same as it was over the weekend... but down two cents from a week ago. A year ago... unleaded regular was averaging $3.84 a gallon.
Trying to help people with Alzheimer's will hit Market Street in Bloomsburg on Saturday to help raise money to combat the disease. Kathy Martin of Orangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center says the disease is not only trying on those who have it... but their families as well. Registration for the walk begins at 10 O'clock Saturday morning at the Bloomsburg Town Park...with the walk stepping off at 11.
After Saturday's 41-13 season opening win over Stonehill College, the Bloomsburg University football team has moved up to 15th in the nation in this week's American Football Coaches Association Poll. Two other PSAC teams are in the top 25- IUP is 8th and West Chester is 23rd. Shippensburg was ranked 7th last week, but has dropped out of the top 25 after a 33-0 loss to Shepherd on Saturday.
The first week of the NFL ended last night with two games... the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Redskins 33 – 27... and the Houston Texans downed the San Diego Charges 31 – 28.
In major league baseball Monday night... The Pittsburgh Pirates getting by the Texas Rangers 1 to nothing... the Washington National blanked the New York Mets 9 to nothing... and the Baltimore Orioles got by the New York Yankees 4 to 2.
