Berwick Meth Bust
Six people were taken into custody Wednesday morning following a suspected meth bust. Police Chief Ken Strish telling us the bust in an apartment building in the 500 block of West Front Street... near LaSalle went down just before dawn. The six in custody were brought out of the house... and hosed down for drug residue by Berwick firemen. They were then transported to the police station to be processed.
All faced arraignment in Danville and were transported to the Columbia County Prison in Bloomsburg
Meth Bust Suspects Identified
Berwick Police Chief Ken Strish identify those busted as:
24 – year old James Eveland
33 – year old Kenneth McCollum
30 – year old Levi Whitesell
33 – year old Ronald Sharpnick
52 – year old Debra Hoskins
29 – year old Kelly Bromley
Strish noted that Debra Hoskins is the mother of Kenneth McCollum.
A Catawissa Township woman is jailed after probation officers found an active meth lab at her grandmothers home in the Bree – Zee Knolls sub – division.
22 – year old Korteny Lunger was initially busted on a probation violation, but authorities spent six hours Tuesday clearing the home of Marilyn Lunger.
The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Wednesday's edition... that cops got a tip that Lunger and 54 – year old Scott Trivelpiece were allegedly making meth in the home. Meantime... Trivelpiece was also arrested when authorities found meth residue at his home on Mill Road in Salem Township.
State stores in Montour and Luzerne Counties will soon have new, expanded hours for their customers. That word from the State Liquor Control Board. The PLCB's Dale Horst says the agency reviewed store hours after the end of the fiscal year... challenging district managers. Horst says even with the changes, the latest any of the stores will be open is 10 pm.
A Tower City man is in the Columbia County Prison after a high speed pursuit through three counties, which began in Conyngham Township... ending in Mt. Carmel early Sunday morning. 36 – year old Robert Miller tried to slide through a stop sign in Aristes... that's where the pursuit began... ended at 5th and Locust in Mt. Carmel. The chase involved cops from ten different jurisdictions... going through three counties before it was stopped. Miller is wanted on outstanding warrants issued by several different counties.
Luzerne County Transit
The Luzerne County Council was told last night by Hazleton City administrators... there is no upside to merging it's transit system with the Luzerne County Transportation Authority. PennDOT say the proposed merger would save a million dollars a year... and would not reduce services, but would merge administrative issues. Both Hazleton mayor Joseph Yannuzzi and acting city administrator Steve Hahn have called the proposal a power and money grab on the part of Luzerne County.
Wilkes – Barre School Super
The Wilkes – Barre Area School Board has hired Bernard Prevuznak as their full – time superintendent. And he gets a bump in salary as well. Prevuznak was paid $121,000 a year as acting superintendent.... but will now earn $140,000 a year to head the 575 employee district.
Figures released by state Department of Labor and Industry shows the unemployment rate in the the Wilkes – Barre area dipped somewhat in July to 9.1%... the lowest since March of 2012. Despite the downturn... the figures show that joblessness in Northeastern Pennsylvania remains the highest in the state's 14 metro areas.
A Kingston man had additional charges filed against him. William Esser is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Wilkes – Barre intermodal transportation center in June. Esser was already in jail for allegedly assaulting a second woman.
As part of the update to the commonwealth’s 12-Year Transportation Program, Pennsylvanians are invited to provide input on their transportation priorities and to register for the program’s first-ever interactive online public meeting. The program serves as a blueprint of prioritized transportation projects, is updated every two years through a cooperative effort among the State Transportation Commission... PennDOT and its 23 regional planning partners. The online public meeting will be held September 26th... starting at 6 PM.
Two Bloomsburg High School Seniors are taking a big shot this weekend... producing an original stage production at the Caldwell Consistory on Market Street. Appearing on the Tuesday edition of the WHLM Morning Buzz... Hailey and Paige Morgan says “Tafton and the Deep” has a pretty simple premise.... with the lead character falling off a ship and washing ashore. The production to be unveiled Saturday night... with a second showing... a matinee... Sunday afternoon at the Caldwell Consistory in Bloomsburg.
