Stout / Harrison Hearing

We should know by Monday how a special master rules in the case of suspended Millville Police Chief Ted Stout and his girlfriend... Tori Harrison... who is also a borough police officer. Both facing each other in court in Bloomsburg Thursday during a hearing on protection from abuse orders filed against each other. Stout and Harrison testifying that they would have knock down, drag out fights at Stout's Millville home with Harrison alleging Stout punched her... tossed her to the ground... subjecting Harrison to emotional abuse. Stout and Harrison are off the job until the issue is resolved.

 

Municipal Building Safety

Investigators in Ross Township in Monroe County are still trying to assess the events of Monday night when a man walked into the municipal building and opened fire on Supervisors... killing three people. Now... at least one local township secretary is made aware of what could happen. Eric Stahley of Scott Township says when something happens... such as in Ross Township... it's always in the back of your mind. Scott Township supervisors meet Tuesday night... and as always... Stahley says there will be police presence.

 

Bloomsburg Nationals

Friday is the opening day of the second annual Bloomsburg National's Powered by Carlisle Events at the fairgrounds. Anywhere between 800 and a thousand classic cars will be on display during the three day event. But... if you really want to get a street side look... there will be a gridlock... Friday afternoon... on Main Street... so says Mike Garland of Carlisle Events. The gridlock starts around 2 O'clock. Detours around Main Street will be clearly marked.

 

Veterans Affairs

It's a little known branch of Columbia County government... but it's gaining notoriety. The office of Veterans Affairs is taking on a bigger caseload. That word from James Merk... who was recently elevated to full – time status... with a part – time assisting him. Merk says they're current working on a case load of 800 servicemen and their dependents. Merk says his clients include veterans from World War Two... the Korean and Vietnam war... as well as those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

 

Point Twp. Fatal

A Tharptown man is dead... after suffering a heart attack at the wheel of his pick – up truck at the intersection of Routes 147 and 405 in Point Township... Northumberland County. Authorities say 45 – year old Harley Gonsar was pronounced dead at the scene. Northumberland County Corner James Kelley said Gonsar died of sudden cardiac arrest. His truck striking a mail box... and going across a lawn... before ending up in a field.

 

Stolen Markers

A Freeland cemetery has become the target of vandals. Authorities say nearly 500 brass grave markers which at one time held American flags have been stolen from St. Ann's cemetery. It happened overnight Wednesday. Now... state police at Hazleton are investigating.

 

Man Charged

A 46 – year old Hazleton man is in trouble with the law. Police say Joseph Lombardo is accused of allegedly exposing himself to a young child in Pocono Summit late last month. Lombardo is charged with indecent exposure and open lewdness against a 10-year-old victim.

 

Traffic Charges

In Schuylkill County... charges have filed stemming from a crash which killed two young girls on Palm Sunday. The 17 – year old driver of the car that hit another vehicle pulling from a church parking lot faces speeding and reckless driving charges. Meantime... Victoria Place of Minersville... who lost her two daughters facing charges of pulling into the path of the other vehicle.

 

Hurricane Season

The federal government's latest look at the Atlantic Hurricane season concludes it could still be very active. We could see as many as 19 named storms... 9 hurricanes and potentially up to five major hurricanes.

PHL Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies routed the Cubs 12-1 yesterday afternoon to take the series two games to one. Friday night the Phils open a weekend series against the Nationals in Washington. The first pitch is at 7:05. Coverage on the whlm stations begins with the pregame show at 6:30.

 

Other Games

In other games Thursday... the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Florida Marlins 5-4 in 10 innings... and the New York Mets topped the Colorado Rockies 2-1.

 

PGA

The PGA Golf tournament opened yesterday at Oak Hill in Rochester... in upstate New York. Tied for the first round lead are Jim Furek and Adam Scott. Tigers Woods, seeking his first major title in over five years, is 6 strokes behind the leaders.

 

Philadelphia Eagles

In preseason NFL action Friday night... the Philadelphia Eagles play their first game at home against the New England Patriots.
