Pine Twp Fatal
State Police are investigating a fatal crash which happened this morning in Pine Township.... north of Millville. The accident happened shortly after 8 this morning in the 32 hundred block of Route 42... near Sereno Hollow Road. Reports from the scene say a middle aged woman died when her car collided with a utility company truck.
The name of the victim has not been released.
Water Valve Replacement
It took United Water crews less time than expected to replace a defective valve under the roadway at Main and Iron Streets in Bloomsburg. The work began around two O'clock Wedmesday morning... and by 7:30 the valve was in place on a 6 inch in diameter pipe. The valve began leaking over the weekend... forcing water to the surface... where it pooled in the intersection.National Night Out
Preparations are underway for next Tuesday's National Night Out here in Bloomsburg. As in year's past... it will be held at the town swimming pool at Catherine and Ft. McClure Boulevard. Ken Auchter of the Bloomsburg Police Department says folks like to stop in and look at the police cruisers... fire trucks and ambulances on display. Bloomsburg's National Night Out begins at 6 O'clock next Tuesday night.... and it includes a night of free swimming at the town pool.
Stuff the Bus
Gathering back to school materials for kids ready to hit the classrooms. For the most part... area schools open for the 2013 – 2014 year in just a few weeks. The Berwick Area United Way is doing its part during their annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign... so says the organization's Ginny Crake. And the Berwick Area United Way is asking you to contribute by purchasing school supplies and placing them in “Stuff the Bus” barrels located across the community. All the materials will be packaged and given out in the days leading up to the opening of schools.
Former Penn State President Graham Spanier, the school's ex-Vice President Gary Schultz and former Athletic Director Tim Curley have been ordered to stand trial for an alleged cover-up of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. District Judge William Wenner in Harrisburg ruled there was enough evidence to warrant a trial. Sandusky--a retired defensive coordinator for the Nittany Lions football team--was convicted last year on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. He insists he's innocent and is appealing his 30-to-60 year prison sentence.
A jury in Luzerne County ruled Tuesday that the 2011 shooting death of a Hazle Township man was a homicide.... and his girl friend was responsible. 34 – year old Matthew Gailie was shot during a domestic disturbance at his home. Gal pal Jessica Alinsky had claimed Gailie had shot himself. But testimony heard this week during a coroner's inquest was full of inconsistencies.
Stick Up Suspect
A Wilkes – Barre man is headed to trail after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint. Sharndel Jackson faced a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon... with the judge deciding there is enough evidence to send Jackson to trial. The incident happened a month ago... with the cabbie testifying that he's quit his job so he's not robbed again.
A 62 – year old Northumberland County woman received scrapes and bruises after her deck collapsed Monday afternoon at her home on East Columbia Avenue in Atlas. Sharon Lee Noble said she was on the deck it failed... falling ten feet or so. It's believed the deck was at least 12 years old. The investigation continues into why the deck collapsed.
Carlos Ruiz and rumored trade target Michael Young each belted two-run homers to back John Lannan's solid seven innings and end the Philadelphia Phillies' eight-game losing streak. The Phil's winning 7 to 3 at Citizens Bank Park. The two teams will be back at it Wednesday night. You can catch all the action starting with the pre – game show tonight at 6:30 on the WHLM Stations.
The red hot Pittsburgh Pirates took two games from the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night. The Pirates winning 2 to 1 in the first game... and 6 to nothing in the second. The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins 4 to 2... and the Los Angeles Dodgers just getting by the New York Yankees 3 to 2.
Market St. Mile
