It was a time for celebration Saturday... as dozen of Fernville residents gathered for the second anniversary of the opening of their park at Drinker and Bloom Streets. The three acre patch of land used to have homes... but they were damaged by the flood of 2006... and condemned. With the help of seed money from the Columbia County Commission... a committee turned the area into a park.
The Dan Knorr era in Bloomsburg has come to an end. Knorr has been mayor of the town the past five years, but now moves on to an administrative job in Danville Borough government. During a recent exit interview... Knorr said the town is in a better... financially... some $800,000 to the good. Knorr says that will allow council to take on projects... that only a few years ago... were impossible to finance.
If you plan using Iron Street... which turns into Millville Road in Bloomsburg... you might want plans to take an alternate route. Starting Monday... PennDOT through it's prime contractor... Glenn Hawbaker... will begin work to reconstruct the highway from Main Street to Mall Boulevard. Most of the time... traffic will be restricted to a single lane... with traffic controlled by flagging personnel. The $793,000 contract is scheduled to be completed by mid – September.
