Numidia Domestic Dispute

A Numidia man is in the Columbia County Prison after he was arrested last night following a domestic dispute with his pregnant girlfriend. Locust Township Police Chief Allen Breach says 22 – year old Christopher Cooper apparently got into an argument with his girlfriend while intoxicated and began waving a gun in the air... eventually firing three shots into a field. That's when officers from Locust and Montour Townships... and Catawissa Borough arrived on the scene. The situation was defused... and Cooper taken into custody. He's facing charges of reckless endangerment... public drunkenness... making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. He's being held on $25,000 bail.


Fishing Creek Rescue

An unidentified teenager is safe... after she was plucked from the Fishing Creek Monday night... south of Kocher Park near Lightstreet. The teen... swimming with three others... found herself downstream... near Back Branch Road and couldn't get to land. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Tuesday's edition... a friend called Columbia County Emergency Dispatch who summoned Lightstreet firemen.

They used ropes to pull the teen from the water safely.


BU Fire

Some tense moments in the Hartline Science Center on the Bloomsburg University campus at midday Monday. That's when the Bloomsburg Fire Department was called to squelch flames and remove smoke from the building. Deputy Fire Chief Scott McBride said a small fire broke out when a chemist dropped a container with Sodium Hydroxide suspended in oil. The flames were quickly extinguished. Students and faculty in the building were evacuated until the smoke cleared and the alarm reset.


Route 11 Microsurfacing

A major road project begins Tuesday on Route 11... between Bloomsburg and Berwick and will last the next two months. But, PennDOT's Rick Mason tells us... before the major micro – surfacing begins... some prep work must be completed at a couple of intersections such as installing signal loop sensors in the pavement. Those sensors trip traffic lights at those intersections. The entire project should be wrapped in two months.


Gas Prices

Gas prices across northeastern Pennsylvania... including Columbia and Montour Counties are remaining steady. The Triple A Fuel Gauge report shows self-serve, unleaded regular is averaging $3.42 a gallon... down a penny from the weekend... but up a cent from a week ago. A month ago... we were paying an average of $3.44 a gallon.


ATV Accident

A 30 – year old Hazleton man is facing a host of charges after he allegedly drove his all – terrain vehicle into a mini – van. Police say Michael Collado was allegedly speeding last week on Emerald Court... crossed 8th street... slamming into the van which was eastbound on 8th. No one was seriously injured in the crash.


Mainville Bridge

Preservation work on the Route 339 bridge one mile east of Mainville started this week. The work planned includes replacing rubber expansion dams, deck repairs and an epoxy and stone chip overlay of the bridge deck. A detour is in place. The bridge will be reopened to traffic by July 26th.


Power Outage Folo

It took crews from Pennsylvania Power and Light a couple of hours Monday to restore power to nearly 1,100 customers from West Berwick to Mifflinville. It was just after dawn when a transformer exploded in a sub-station in Briar Creek township. The outage was more of a nuisance than anything else. No other damage was reported at the sub – station near the corner of Ber-Vaughn Park Road and Orange Street.


Transportation Bill

In less than a week, the state house transportation committee has held three hearings on the highway, bridge and mass transit funding bill passed by the senate. During a hearing Monday... the president of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association says on structurally deficient bridges cause detours that become expensive for the industry. The senate bill raises more than the Governor's version. The committee still has more work to do before moving the bill to the house floor.

PHL Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies finally got into the win column Monday night in the first game in a series with the National's in Washington. The Phil's just getting by the Nats 5 to 4. Both teams face each other Tuesday night in Washington. You can catch all the action on the WHLM Stations... starting with the pre – game at 6:30.


Other MLB Games

The Cincinnati Reds downed the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 1... and the Atlanta Braves got by the New York Mets 2 to 1.



Game three Monday night of the NHL Stanley Cup finals. At the buzzer... the Boston Bruins out – scored the Chicago Blackhawks 2 to nothing. Boston now taking a two to one lead in the best of seven series.



In the NBA tonight, it's game 6 of the championship finals series with San Antonio playing at Miami. The Spurs lead that series three games to two.
