The PA State Revenue Department collected $2 – billion in general revenue funds in May... or about $35 – million more than expected. But year to date... the state has collected $26 – billion... or about a four – tenths of a percent increase... just barely covering the current budget. Meantime... the numbers are important as state lawmakers get ready to go forward with the proposed 2013 – 2014 state budget.
Millard / Budget
It's crunch time in the State House as lawmakers begin placing the final touches on a proposed $28.3 – billion budget for the 2013 – 2014 fiscal year. Representative David Millard of Mt. Pleasant Township says the final measure will be introduced in to the house next week... with the plan literally coming down to numbers. Still to be determined is the fate of Governor Corbett's transportation and the liquor privatization bill, which is being held up in the state senate. Whatever the case... a budget must be in place by July 1st.
Mega Millions Winner
State Lottery officials now say a Friday Mega Millions ticket worth $250,000 was sold in Shamokin Dam... in Snyder County. The winning ticket was sold at a Short Stop Mart at 3013 Susquehanna Trail. Thus far, no one has claimed the winning price... and ticket holder has a year to do so. The store will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
Van Loan / Click It
The national “Click It or Ticket” program continues.... and one officer keeping watch over drivers is Bloomsburg PD Sgt. Roger Van Loan. He says today's teen drivers are compliant to the state's seat belt laws. The “Click It or Ticket” program runs through June 9th.
Mifflinville Meth Folo
A 24 – year old Hetlerville woman who had her three kids taken away during a recent meth lab bust is in the Columbia County Prison. Abby Burd is facing drug charges in connection with the bust at a Hetlerville mobile home May 23rd. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Monday's edition... Burd allegedly supplied Sudafed to make the meth. Her three kids were taken away from her during the raid on the home. Still on the loose is Burd's 19 – year old cousin James Hughes... who fled the scene when cops arrived.
A $2.9 – million dollar construction projection begins Monday in the westbound rest area on Interstate 80 near Mifflinville. It starts with the re – construction of the area used for trucks. PennDOT says contractor Glenn Hawbaker, Incorporated will begin work to widen the place new concrete pavement... as well as put down new sidewalks and handicapped ramp. Once the truck parking area is finished... attention will be focused on where passenger cars, vans and SUV's park.
Still no suspects in custody in the alleged robbery of a 14 – year old girl Friday night in Hazleton. Police say the teenager told them she was walking on Fern Street when she was approached by a group of other teens... who allegedly ripped off her iPod. She also said one of the seven boys had a weapon. If you have information about the robbery... call Hazleton Police.
The unemployment rate in northeastern Pennsylvania is down in April. Figures released by the state show the seasonally adjusted figures show the unemployment rate at 8.5%... three – tenths of a percent lower than it was in March. Officials say that's the single biggest monthly drop since January of 2000.
A Hazleton area teenager was airlifted to a trauma center following a weekend accident on State Route 424... between Route 93 and South Poplar Street. Police say the teen was driving an SUV when it collided with a tractor trailer. The teen was airlifted to an unknown trauma center for treatment of injuries. The truck driver from North Carolina was not injured.
