Hetlerville Meth Lab

Two people were questioned... and one is being sought following a suspected Meth lab bust near Hetlerville in Mifflin Township Thursday night. Three children are in protective custody. Our media partner... Newswatch 16.... and the Press – Enterprise are reporting in Friday's edition.. Abby Burd... as well as 21- year old Heaven Sullivan are expected to have drug charges filed against them. Now... police are looking for 18 – year old James Hughes who fled the scene. All have past police records. The trailer is owned by Marion Bloom... Hughes' great – grandmother... didn't suspect anything wrong.

 

Geisinger Jobs

Danville – based Geisinger is trying to help those who served in the military to help find them a position within their health system framework. The program is being run by corporate recruiter Phyllis Scott out of her Geisinger Wilkes – Barre office. Ms. Scott says GHS is offering one on one support to those former military men and women seeking employment. Want more information... go to their website... www.geisinger.org.

 

Bicentennial / Mifflinville

Remembering those who allow us to be free... as Mifflinville holds it's 125th Memorial Day Celebration with a parade. In the line of march this year will be the man who was the driving force behind Columbia County's Bicentennial celebration... County Commissioner David Kovach. He says it will be one of your last opportunities to get a hold of Columbia County Bicentennial memorabilia during the celebration at the carnival grounds at E. First Street.

 

Person Hit

A Scott Township man was rushed to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville Thursday after he darted into traffic and was clipped by a pick – up truck mirror. The incident happened in the 100 block of East Main street... directly in front of WHLM's storefront studio. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Friday's edition 28 – year old Sean Kile was trying to walk from one side of East Main to the other... and that's when he was hit by a truck driven by Roger Young of Benton. Kile is listed in “serious” condition by Geisinger.

 

Montour Boulevard Crash.

An unusual place for a late model car to end up. An early Thursday afternoon accident found the car on top of a guardrail on Route 11... in Montour Township. Police say the driver either passed out or fell asleep... spearing the guard rail head on... leaving the car's wheels about two feet off the ground.

 

Governmental Award

Cornell Iron Works, Incorporated of Mountain Top is the recipient of the Export Impact Award by the state and Governor Corbett. It happened during a ceremony in Harrisburg Thursday... and is designed to highlight companies who create jobs and make positive contributions. Cornell manufactures a complete line of door and closure products with security in mind.

 

PennDOT Construction

PennDOT says a nearly $3 – million reconstruction project in the westbound rest area of Interstate 80... near Mifflinville... gets underway June 3rd. Agency spokesman Rick Mason says contractor Glenn Hawbaker will begin work to widen and place new concrete pavement in the truck parking area... construct new sidewalks... repave the parking area... as well as install new lighting... trees and shrubs. During various times during the project... either the truck parking area... or that for cars will be closed.

 

Dalessandro Passing

A long time Luzerne County Judge is dead. 86 – year old Arthur Dalessandro died earlier this week at his home in Yatesville. Dalessandro was on the bench for 17 – years before he pleaded guilty to tax evasion back in 1989.

 

Shamokin Fire

Investigators are still trying to figure out why a fire broke out early Thursday morning in two homes in the 12 – hundred block of West Arch Street in Coal Township. Firefighters were first dispatched around 2 O'clock morning... and immediately called for a second alarm. It appears the blaze began in a vacant home and spread to the property of Jeffery McCloud... who was out of state when the fire began. No injuries were reported.

 

DCNR Meeting

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has scheduled a meeting next month dealing with Marcellus Shale issues in the Loyalsock State Forest in Lycoming County. DCNR secretary Richard Allan will be on hand. That meeting to be held June 3rd... starting at 4 O'clock.. at Lycoming College in Williamsport.

 

Hunting Report

A new report issued by the Pennsylvania Game Commission indicates that hunting is getting safer in the Commonwealth. The report shows no firearms fatalities in 2013. That's the first time the number has stood at zero since the game Commission started tracking such incidents nearly a century ago. However, the report said there were 22 – non fatal shooting incidents across Pennsylvania woodlands... but that's a decline from the previous year.

 

DOE Secretary

Governor Corbett has officially nominated Dr. William E. Harner to be Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education. Harner was named last week as the replacement for Ron Tomalis, who has been named Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education. He currently serves as superintendent of the Cumberland Valley School District in Mechanicsburg.

In girls high school softball yesterday, in a District 4 Class AA quarterfinal... Central Columbia defeated Troy 7 – nothing. In a District 4 Class AAA game... Jersey Shore got the best of Danville 4 to nothing... in a District 4 Class A game... Bloomsburg downed Benton 4 to nothing.

 

HS Track & Field

A number of area high school athletes will be competing for medals in the state track & field championships which begin Friday morning. They conclude Saturday afternoon at Seth Grove Stadium at Shippensburg University.

 

PHL Phillies

In major league baseball Friday night, the Philadelphia Phillies open a weekend series in Washington against the Nationals. Coverage on the WHLM Stations begins with the pregame show at 6:30.

 

Other MLB Games

In the majors Thursday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-2.

 

Henry Hynoski

The injury to former Southern Columbia star Henry Hynoski has been diagnosed. Hynoski hurting the medial collateral ligament to his left knee. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday. According to the New York Giants website, the third year starting fullback's goal is to ready for the first game of the regular season.
