Primary Election

A political newcomer will be the apparent next mayor of Bloomsburg after winning the Democratic nomination during Tuesday's primary election. Complete, but unofficial returns show that Sandy Davis is the top vote getter over two other candidates running for the office. Davis getting 49% of the vote... compared to current Bloomsburg Town Councilman Eric Bower who got 30% and current Council Vice – Chair Diane Levan who received 19%. Bower said he's disappointed... but with two years left on his council term... he plans to make a difference. For Mayor Dan Knorr... it was a bitter sweet night since he endorsed Ms. Levan. As of now... Ms. Davis won't be challenged in the November general election since there are no Republicans stepping up to the plate.


Hazleton Primary

An outspoken critic of the Hazleton city administration secured nominations on both tickets for the race for city council. According to unofficial results... Incumbent Jack Mundie will run as a Republican and Democrat in the November general election. Mundie has often verbally clashed with Mayor Joseph Yanuzzi and other council members.


Sugarloaf Supervisor

A man who has been supervisor in Sugarloaf Township for the past 40 – years was defeated in Tuesday's primary election. 90 – year old Earl Miller was defeated by Richard Yost. The big issue facing the township... according to Yost... resolving difference with Conyngham about the sewer and water authority.


Partial Structure Collapse

A structural engineer is expected to be at a building Wednesday that used to be an ice house at 255 East 7th Street of Bloomsburg. That... after a couple of dozen bricks fell from the rear of the building... and was witnessed by a man waiting for his wife to come out of work... so says Fire Chief Bob Rupp. The building is at least 100 years old. No other bricks fell from the two story structure while firemen and code enforcement personnel were on hand... but people living in an apartment in the front of the building were evacuated and found lodging elsewhere.


OKC Tornado

There is a flurry of activity near Moore, Oklahoma following this week's tornado which flattened the town... leaving 24 people dead in it's wake and thousands of people hurting. But, one organization with “boots on the ground” is the American Red Cross. Rita Inklovich of the Bloomsburg Chapter says personnel keep pouring in the area... and there are plenty of resources to work with. Also needed are donations of cash or checks that can be dropped off at the local chapter at 7th and Iron Streets.... or you can donate on – line or by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to give a ten dollar gift.


Woman Arrested

A Kulpmont woman is facing 26 charges after allegedly taking cash... jewelry... and medication from an elderly women she was caring for. 24 – year old Kaitlyn Ann Else faced a first arraignment this week.... and is now lodge in the Northumberland County Prison... with bail set at $25,000. Else faces a host of felony and misdemeanor charges.


Mifflinville Parade

The folks in Mifflinville are gearing up for this coming weekend's Memorial Day event. They kick it off on Sunday with a festival at the Carnival grounds on E. 1st Street... followed by their annual parade the next day. Bonnie Farver of the celebration committee says the parade will form at 8:30 AM near the bank. Sunday's event begins at at mid-morning... featuring vendors... food... as well as antique cars and tractors. Monday's 125th veterans day parade begins at 9 AM.... and ends at the village cemetery.

HS Baseball

In high school baseball Tuesday... in the District 2 Class AAA playoffs... Wyoming Area downed Berwick 12 – 4.


Other Playoff Games

In District 4 Class AA first round games from Tuesday... Southern Columbia defeated Mansfield 8 – 3... Montoursville getting by Central Columbia 5 – 3... and Bloomsburg blanked Towanda 2 – nothing.


HS Softball

In the District 4 AA girls softball playoffs... Wyalusing defeated the Columbia Montour Vo Tech 12 – 2.


PHL Phillies

In the second game of their series in Miami Tuesday night... it was the Philadelphia Phillies over the Marlins 7 – 3. The final game of the series is Wednesday night. Coverage on the WHLM Stations begins with the pregame show at 6:35.


Other MLB Games

The Pittsburgh Pirates just getting by the Chicago Cubs 5 – 4... the Cincinnati Reds blanked the New York Mets 4 – nothing... and the Baltimore Orioles squeezed by the New York Yankees 3 – 2.


NBA Playoffs

In the NBA'S Western Conference Final series Tuesday... San Antonio went overtime... defeating Memphis 93 – 89. San Antonio leads the series two games to one. Indiana is at Miami Wednesday night in the opening game of the Eastern Conference final series.



The Pittsburgh Penguins are at Ottawa Wednesday night in game four of their NHL Stanley Cup Playoff series. The Pens lead two games to one.
