Mother nature will not give up her grip on Columbia and Montour Counties. The National Weather Service in State College says we could get anywhere from one to two inches of snow... then rain and snow late in the day. Whatever the case... no advisories or watches have been posted... and most of the wintery weather will be south of Interstate 80. Already... PennDOT trucks are out on the roads... pre – treating the higher elevations.
One of the three candidates seeking the democratic nomination for Bloomsburg mayor got a boost in her campaign. Council person Diane Levan received the endorsement of out – going Mayor Dan Knorr. Ms. Levan called the Mayor's endorsement important. For Mayor Knorr... tossing his support behind Ms. Levan was a no – brainer. Ms. Levan faces political new comer Sandy Davis and council person Eric Bower in the May primary election.
A 5K run.... one of the largest parades Bloomsburg has seen in quite a while... and music and fun and fireworks at the fairgrounds. What a way to celebrate Columbia County's 200th birthday over the weekend. Also... a time capsule which will be opened in 2063 containing WHLM broadcasts leading up to Bicentennial weekend... several editions of the Bloomsburg Press – Enterprise... and dozens of other items. County commissioner and Bicentennial organizer David Kovach says the time capsule won't be buried, but rather a traveling time piece over the next fifty years.
Faith – based AGAPE is accepting unused, but clean men's and women's clothing and shoes Monday at their headquarters on 7th Street in Bloomsburg starting at 10 O'clock. What they're looking for is casual clothing and business attire... as well as shoes. The project is part of the group's mission to make sure everyone is clothed properly. AGAPE plans to be open Tuesday... starting at 5 O'clock to distribute the clothing to those who are in need of the items.
The February employment statistics released by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry show that the state’s unemployment rate dropped one-tenth of a percentage point to 8.1% February. The department reported unemployment decreased 5,000 over the month to 532,000. This was the second largest decrease of the past twelve months and the fourth largest since January 2011.
A Hazleton bar and apartments adjoining it have been condemned by the city's code enforcement department. Coal Crackers bar and apartments in the building in the 500 – block of Alter Streets were evacuated... and the building condemned when a tenant called asking the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The fire department arrived finding a malfunctioning furnace. Firemen also discovering electrical problems... and no working smoke detectors.
Police in Nanticoke are investigating vandalism to a bar... which has had a troubled past. When the new owners visited the Prospect Cafe on South Prospect Street... they found the basement flooded.... the ceiling ripped out... and cooking equipment removed. No word yet on suspects or the dollar amount of the vandalism at the Prospect Cafe in Nanticoke.

State Police say a six-year-old girl is dead following a crash in Schuylkill County on Sunday. Investigators say the child was in a car... which pulled out of a parking lot near Orwigsburg... along Route 61... when it collided with another car. The two kids were taken to an Allentown hospital... where the one died. Both drivers were taken to the hospital as well.
The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Philadelphia University. The Huskies won the first game 9-0 and the nightcap 3-0. Bloomsburg now has a record of 12 and 4. Thursday afternoon the Huskies will be at home against Georgian Court.
The original field of 68 teams in the NCAA basketball tournament is now down to 16. In Sunday night's games Florida Gulf Coast defeated San Diego State 81 – 71... LaSalle getting by Mississippi 76 – 74... Miami downed Illinois 63 to 59.... and Duke scooted by Creighton 66 to 50.
