A Winter Weather Advisory remains posted in Columbia and Montour Counties until 8 AM Tuesday morning.
Road crews have been out overnight clearing the snow and slush which has accumulated on the highways.
They've also been placing salt on the roadway as a precaution.
Messy Weather / Wintery Mix
Mother Nature is not through with us yet and the weather in the area could get downright nasty the next day or so. The National Weather Service in State College issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for the region with the forecast calling for snow, sleet and freezing rain through Tuesday morning. An estimated 1 to 3 inches of snow could fall over Columbia and Montour Counties... starting in the daylight hours... punctuated with sleet and freezing rain overnight. In most cases travel will become hazardous. We're keeping an eye on the weather... and we'll update you through the day.
Bloomsburg Police say one man is on the loose after an armed robbery in the 400 block of East 4th Street late Sunday night. Sgt. Leonard Rogutski telling us one person has been arrested, but they're looking for 22 – year old Samuel Andre Jeannot... a Bloomsburg University student from the Philadelphia area. Jeannot is wanted on a charge of felony robbery and assault. Police say a handgun was used in the robbery... and Jeannot is considered armed and dangerous. Berwick Drug Bust
Three Berwick residents are in the Columbia County Prison after they were busted for drugs at the start of the weekend. 28 – year old Courtney Fairbanks... 27 – year old David Fenton and 23 – year old Timothy Rodenhaver were taken into custody at an apartment in the 800 block of West Front Street. Police finding heroin and money. It was the first major bust in weeks... with Berwick Police Chief Ken Strish says that's due to drug dealers already busted and in jail. Fairbanks is jailed on $150,000 bond... while Fenton and Rodenhaver are jailed on $100,000 bond each.
Three people were able to escape a burning mobile home early Sunday morning thanks to a smoke alarm. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Monday's edition... 42 – year old Missy Long.... her 19 – year old son, Larry and David Bankes fled the structure into the chilly pre – dawn air. It's believed the blaze began in an electrical outlet in a bedroom. All are staying with family members.
A 20 – year old woman and her infant daughter will try and get their lives back in order this week... following a fire which destroyed their mobile home in the 200 block of Wirt Street Saturday afternoon. Bloomsburg Rescue Chief Chief Hugh Gross was one of the first people on the scene. He said a mobile home was on fire... and it had spread to an attached structure and a work area. Carrie Millington and her 4 – year old daughter are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Snowy conditions Saturday contributed to a 20-vehicle pileup on Interstate 80 in the Hazleton area. State Police say the multi - car crash happened when several vehicles lost control on the slick roadway during the snowstorm which rolled through the area. Several people were taken to area hospitals.
Mobile Home Explosion
A rough weekend for five people in Conyngham Township... near Hazleton. Authorities say a man went to light a furnace in a mobile home when it exploded. No one was injured... but the resulting fire forced five people out of their home along Fire Hall Road in Conyngham Township.
A Hazleton man is in trouble with the law... arrested on drug charges after he was stopped by police in McAdoo. Cody Raymond Tatro of North Locust Street was busted on a long list of charges after he was stopped along Tresckow Road late Friday. An officer detecting a strong odor of burnt marijuana inside the car. Tatro failed a field sobriety test and was jailed.
Wilkes – Barre Shooting
Gunshots rang out early Saturday morning in Wilkes – Barre. Police say 26 – year old Renold Julien was gunned down in the parking lot of a bar known as Locals 88 on Poplar Street. Friends taking Julien to Wilkes – Barre General Hospital, but he was later transferred to Geisinger Wyoming Valley where he died. The person who did the shooting remains on the loose.
Wal - Mart Assault
Coal Township and Shamokin police... in Northumberland County... are looking for the person who allegedly assaulted a loss prevention associate at the Wal-Mart in along Route 61 Saturday night. The assault happened after the suspect was confronted after he allegedly made off with some items. Following the assault... a knife was pulled. The store employee suffered a jaw injury. No word as to who police are looking for.
The Bloomsburg University softball team improved their record to 6 and one with a 6 to 1 win over Fairmont State of West Virginia Sunday afternoon at tournament in Salem, Virginia. The Huskies' next action is a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon against Wingate in North Carolina.
BU Women's Basketball
One of the most successful seasons in the history of Bloomsburg University women's basketball ended Friday night in Erie where the Huskies lost to IUP 72-59 in the NCAA Atlantic Regional. The Huskies finished the season with the PSAC title and a 24 and 6 record. Gannon plays California in Monday night's regional final.
The final two District 4 high school basketball teams remaining in the state playoffs were eliminated on Saturday in the state quarterfinals. The Loyalsock boys lost to Trinity 73-68 in overtime while the Lourdes Regional girls lost to Southern Fulton 47-29.
The Bucknell University basketball team will play Butler in the opening round of the NCAA basketball tournament. That game will played Thursday in Lexington, Kentucky.
