Fired Trainer

A Geisinger Sports Medicine trainer... is no longer on the job after she allegedly had a inappropriate relationship with a Central High School student. The Press - Enterprise is reporting in Friday's edition... 24 – year old Brittany Schreppel of Williamsport was a sports trainer at the school... contracted through Geisinger. As speculation of a relationship began to get traction... school officials asked she not return. She didn't and was suspended... then fired by Geisinger. Now... an apparent police investigation into the issue is underway.


Millard / Liquor

It's not going to be an easy.... or an overnight transition... if Pennsylvania gets out of the state store business... selling stores, licenses and inventories to the private sector. That's what's being proposed by Governor Corbett... at the demand of the consumer. State Rep. David Millard of Mt. Pleasant Township says that's just one part of the component. But there's a second... the rank and file employees... some 6,000 of them statewide. But what Governor Corbett is proposing... and what will really happen in the end are separated by a couple of years... with the State House and Senate giving it's okay... then the entire plan must get the approval of the legal eagles in Harrisburg.


Hello Kitty

A 5 – year old kindergarten student in the Mt. Carmel area district was back in the classroom Thursday... after the district dropped her suspension. The child got the boot from school after allegedly telling several classmates she was going to shoot them... and then herself... with a pink Hello Kitty Bubble gun. The issue got national attention. The child's mother Kelly Gauarna and her attorney met with district officials this week and straightened out the situation. The school will now delete the suspension from the child's records.


Hazleton Garage

Hazleton Mayor Joseph Yannuzzi is proposing a robotic parking garage in the downtown... and he wants to use a million dollars to get the job done. During his State of the City address this week... he said the one million dollars is part of an estimated $4 – million set aside to repair the current parking garage on South Wyoming Street. It will be all part of a project to renovate the former Trader's and Hazleton National Bank.


AVP Terminal Building

The board that runs the Wilkes – Barre / Scranton International Airport wants to get rid of it's old terminal building. The 57 – year old building has not been used since 2006... and now the board would like it raised by the end of the year. Representatives of a demolition company is expected to do a walk through next week... but board members question where they'll get the estimated $2 – million to get the job done.


Route 61 Detour

A portion of Route 61 in Northumberland County closed to traffic on Thursday... is now back open. That storm that blew through the area early yesterday morning downed trees and power lines... keeping a portion of the highway between Sunbury and Shamokin closed. Driver had to use detours to get to where they were going. Meantime... Shakespeare Road in East Chillisquaque Township, between Route 45 and Hobbes Road... is expected to be open Friday. Flooding from the storm has had the road closed since early Thursday morning.


Coal Twp. Fire

Coal Township firemen... near Shamokin... in Northumberland county say a bad electrical outlet is to blame for a fire earlier this week. The blaze took place in a house in the 1400 block of Wabash Street... where it intersects with Sherman. Mike Borich and Lizzette Velazquez... formerly of Bloomsburg were not at home when the fire began. The only causalities were several animals which were inside the house when the flames broke out.


Bloomsburg YMCA

Officials of the Bloomsburg YMCA on 7th Street cut the ribbon Thursday on a refurbished aerobics room which sees a lot of use. For “Y” Executive Director Roger Brown... it's an upgrade the building needed. The upgrade.... with the addition of exercise equipment was made possible through a donation made late last year by the Alexander Family dealerships.

In high school wrestling Thursday night... Benton defeated South Williamsport 45 – 25...


BU Basketball

The Bloomsburg University men's and women's basketball teams play at Kutztown Saturday afternoon starting with the women's game at 1 o'clock. You can hear all the action on the WHLM Stations starting with the pregame show at 12:40.


BU Wrestling

The 14th ranked Bloomsburg University wrestling team has two matches on the road this weekend.

Saturday afternoon, the Huskies are at Cleveland State. Sunday, they wrestle at Clarion.


Super Bowl

Sunday's Super Bowl has a Bloomsburg University connection. Former Husky Juney Barnett is an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens game against the San Francisco 49ers kicks off Sunday evening at 6:30 in New Orleans.
