Mt Pleasant Township Fire
A Tuesday night fire destroyed part of a mobile home in Mt. Pleasant Township. The blaze began around 7 O'clock at 331 Rolling Hills North... just off Millertown Road. Reports from the scene indicate the blaze began at the rear of the structure. Since there are no fire hydrants in the area.... crews had to shuttle water into the scene from a point near the American Legion at Mall Boulevard and Millville Road. The family who lives in the home is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
PPL Rate Increase
If you're an electrical subscriber to PPL you will soon see an increase in your bill. The State's Public Service Commission approving the increase... which is expected to bring the utility an estimated $71 – million a year. The PUC says the extra money is earmarked for increased distribution charges... and to reflect higher operating and maintenance expenses. When it's all said an done... it will increase the bill of a residential customer 3% a month.
Swearing - in Ceremony
A big day in the state house in Harrisburg on New Years Day... starting with former Representative Craig Dally... now a judge in Northampton County. He swore in 201 of 203 members of the State House of Representatives. According to the Pennsylvania Constitution... the state house and senate must meet at noon on the first Tuesday of January each year. The last time they convened on January 1st for swearing in ceremonies was back in 1991.
Millard / Big Issues
One person to be sworn – in on Tuesday was State Representative David Millard of Millville. During a recent appearance on the WHLM Morning Buzz, Rep. Millard said one of the big issues lawmakers must deal with is pension reform. The second is transportation and the state's aging infrastructure.
