For the 12th time this year... Berwick police have busted a suspected meth lab...taking two people into custody. Our media partner... Newswatch 16 is reporting... 27 – year old Jason Mussleman was arrested at a house in the 800 block of Vine Street... after eluding police at a second house a block away while they tried to serve a warrant. Also busted was 33 – year old Michael Mitchell who had suspected meth making ingredients inside the second home. Both men face drug charges and are in the Columbia County Prison in Bloomsburg.
Berwick Boulevard Vandalism
Police in Berwick want to find the person responsible for breaking into a building at the Berwick Boulevard on Market Street... and may have taken cash from a donation box. Since the Boulevard was opened last Saturday... the building has been broken into twice. The boulevard is a production of the Berwick Jaycees who have been putting on the event for the past 66 – years.
Bloomsburg Town Council is expected to vote on a proposed $4 – million plus 2013 budget later this month. If approved, the town will start the year with a $99,000 deficit... and will have to use $164,000 of cash reserves for one time expenses. For councilperson Diane Levan... it was one of the toughest spending plans she's worked on. What could effect the budget one way or the other is lease negotiations with Columbia Aircraft at the airport... as well as whether the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency will come through the the money promised for flood recovery.
A Hazleton man is in the Luzerne County lock up after he allegedly fired shots at a 19 – year old man who was arguing with his son. Following an appearance before a district judge... Ramon Diaz was sent to the Luzerne County Correctional facility in lieu of $75,000 bail. Police say the incident happened at North Locust and 5th Streets late Wednesday night when Diaz allegedly fired two shots at the unidentified man... who called authorities. No one was injured.
A half – way house for prison inmates in Hazleton... known as MinSic... may be moved to another location. That... after a New Jersey – based company recently purchased the facility. Community Education Centers is now searching for a site. The half way house has been in the former Hotel Altamonte since 2008... and since that time there have been problems with residents committing crimes.
Berwick Salvation Army
The Berwick Salvation Army has a list of 500 families who need assistance this holiday season... and they need your help in “stuffing a truck.” That's the theme of a campaign starting Saturday in conjunction with the Wal – Mart store in Buckhorn. Lt. Kevin Polito telling says they want to fill a donated truck with toys and coats. The “stuff the truck” campaign begins Saturday morning in the parking lot of Wal – Mart on Lunger Drive in Hemlock Township.
Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble
In keeping with the Christmas Spirit... the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble began a three day run Thursday night of the latest production entitled “Live from Bloomsburg, a Very Special Christmas.” The second performance is Friday night at the Moose Exchange on Main Street. Show times for “Live from Bloomsburg” is 7 O'clock Friday and Saturday night... with a Saturday matinee at 4. At the same time... BTE is presenting “A Christmas Carol” at the Alvina Krause Theater on Center Street... every weekend through the 29th.
State gaming officials say Pennsylvania casinos saw a slight rise in gross slots revenue last month, compared to November 2011. But the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board says the increase was less than a half a percent... up to $192.5 million... and it was boosted by the opening of Valley Forge Casino Resort earlier in the year. The gaming board says revenue figures declined about 1.9 percent when looking only at the 10 casinos open during both periods.
Three members of the Bloomsburg University football team were named to the Beyond Sports Network Division II All American team. Junior running back Franklyn Quiteh was named to the first team; junior offensive lineman Brian Clarke was named second team; and senior defensive end Larry Webster was a third team selection.
The Bloomsburg University men's and women's basketball teams will both face challenges Saturday afternoon when the Huskies play at Millersville. Earlier this week, the Millersville men's team beat Goldy Beacom 60-48 for their 6th straight win. The Millersville women's team has won all four of their games. High school basketball's regular season tipped off Friday night. At the McCloskey Center in Danville, two boys' teams that combined for 45 wins last season- Danville and Pottsville, met in a game you heard on the WHLM Stations.
