Bloomsburg Fair

The Bloomsburg Fair Association Board of Directors say they'll be ready to open the gates to the 157th exposition later this month. And although the fairgrounds were under water a year ago.... volunteers have been a tremendous asset in cleaning up the place... something Association President Paul Reichart says helped the bottom line. This year's fair is being dedicated to the hundreds... if not thousands... of volunteers who spend their spare time getting the fairgrounds back in shape. The 157th exposition opens Saturday, September 22nd.


Scott Township

Keep an eye on the Susquehanna River. That word from Scott Township Secretary Eric Stahley when asked about lessons learned from last September's flooding. During a recent interview at the municipal building... Stahley says one has got to pay attention to upper Susquehanna watershed. Despite the township being inundated from the river's edge to the North Shore Railroad tracks... Stahley said the area has recovered... and with the help of the federal and state government... 23 homes will be included in a buyout designed to get home off the flood plain.


Flood Service

It's hard to believe... but a year ago this week... we were battling flood waters produced by Tropical Storm Lee. Now... the Bloomsburg Ministerium will remember the events of September 2011 during an outdoor service Sunday evening at the Town Park bandshell according to the Reverend Steve Engelhardt. The service gets underway Sunday evening at 6 O'clock.


Shamokin Fire

What caused that overnight fire in a vacant building in Shamokin.

That's what fire investigators will try and determine this morning.

The blaze was reported around 10 last night in a vacant building at the corner of Sunbury and Shamokin Streets... and before it was brought under control... it went to three alarms. Several Columbia County fire units were sent to the fire station in Kulpmont to stand by. The building... according to authorities... has been vacant the past seven years... and did not have electrical service.


Class Disrupted

Thursday should be pretty normal in the for students... faculty and staff at the Holy Family Academy at North Laurel and Fifth Streets in Hazleton. About 200 people were ordered out of the building on Wednesday... after leaking natural gas was discovered. A UGI crew came in and fixed the inactive gas main... but everyone was sent home for the day as a precaution.


Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate in Luzerne County is one of the highest in the state. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the seasonally unadjusted Luzerne County's jobless rate was 10.1% in July... up four - tenths of a percent from July of 2011. Columbia County's rate held steady at 8.2%. Meantime... the State Department of Labor and Industry says the Wilkes – Barre / Scranton metro area has been the highest among the state's urban regions since April of 2011.


Kiddie Porn Plea

A Luzerne County man is expected to spend the next eight to eleven years in prison. Investigators say 21 – year old Rafael Polonia of Hazleton used his computer to grab kiddie porn off the internet in January. Polona has has agreed to plead guilty... with sentencing at a future date.


ACF Plant

An Ohio – based company has been taking a look at the former ACF complex in Milton during the past few months. Published reports says investors would like to establish a factory to build propane tanks for the Marcellus Shale gas industry. Already... environmental tests on the property have been completed. If the plant comes back on line... up to a hundred new jobs would be created.

BU Football

Ranked 19th in the nation, the Bloomsburg University football team plays its home opener Saturday afternoon against the Fighting Scots of Edinboro, a team that will be playing its opening game of the season. There will be free admission for all fans on Saturday on the Huskies' "One Town, One Team, Flood Recovery Recognition Day." You can hear the game starting with The Husky Tailgate show at 11 O'clock on News Radio 930, 94.7 and 104.3... as well as Berwick's 1280 and


NFL Football

The Dallas Cowboys dominated the New York Giants last night... as the NFL football season got underway. In the end.... the Cowboys defeated the Giants 24 to 17.


Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies concluded a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2 victory. The Phil's have the day off. They'll now return home.. back at Citizens Bank Park for a weekend series with the Colorado Rockies starting Friday. We'll join that game in progress following high school football on the WHLM Stations.
