Meth Lab Busted

Police in Berwick have broken up a meth lab operation in Berwick. The 400 block of West Front Street was blocked off for a while Wednesday by fire trucks and police cars as authorities busted a large drug lab. Our media partner... NewsWatch 16 is reporting about a dozen people were rounded up... and may face charges in connection with that meth lab.


Danville Schools

The administration at the Danville Area School district say they're ready to take on the 2012 – 2013 school year. Last September... the distirct was faced with the loss of schools due to the flooding of tropical storm Lee... but Superintendent Cheryl Latorre says they're ready to get on with the program.


Blood Donors Sought

The Bloomsburg Chapter of the American Red Cross continues to look for blood donors... and heading into the Labor Day Holiday next weekend... time is of the essence. The Chapter's Sue Norton says it's been an uphill fight trying to find and cultivate donors. Meantime, there are various blood drives throughout the area. Anti - Heroin Rally

A Berwick woman is doing her part to make the area aware of the dangers of drugs.... especially heroin. Vicki Lowery's daughter was swept up by heroin... and now Ms. Lowery says she plans a rally at the Jackson Mansion next month to show her support in stamping out heroin and other drugs. The rally will be one of about a dozen being held around the U-S at the same time. It takes place Saturday, September 15th at the Jackson Mansion on Market Street starting at 1 O'clock.


Geisinger Grants

Researchers at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville have received nearly $4 – million in the form of two grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. DOH Secretary Dr. Eli Avila says $2.9 million is earmarked for the study of abdominal aortic aneurysm... and $1 - million to better predict cancer of the esophagus. Dr. Avila says Geisinger is an important part of the health care component. The money for the grants are funded through a program based on a 2001 Master Settlement Agreement with major tobacco manufacturers.


Labor Day Travel

Americans are ready to travel for Labor Day weekend despite the higher gas prices. The Triple – A expects travel to be up almost 3% nationwide for the Labor Day holiday with increases in both car and air travel. Jenny Robinson of Triple – A Mid Atlantic says there's improving consumer confidence compared to a year ago and more people are prioritizing travel. There are signs of economizing to help pay for increased fuel costs... and more than half say their trips will be shorter.

Walson Funeral

Funeral services will be held in Allentown Thursday for John Walson... the chief executive officer of Service Electric Cable. The company provides cable TV service to the Bloomsburg area... as well as other parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Walson died over the weekend after battling cancer. Service Electric was initially started in the late 1940's by his father... then passed it on to his son. John Walson was 63.


Murder Investigation

Hazleton police have released very little information in the death of a 29 – year old Hazle Township man... found in the middle of Carson Street earlier this month. Aaron Reznick died last Monday at an Allentown hospital. Despite a news conference on Tuesday... Investigators did not release much information. In custody charged in Reznick's death is 19 – year old Breon Judon and 17 – year old Michael Dedes. Both are in the Luzerne County Jail.


Former Cop Sentenced

A former Mt. Carmel police officer has been sentenced to eight years in prison. 56 – year old Blaine Handerhan must also pay $75,000 in restitution after he was found guilty last October... and sentenced Tuesday... on a child pornography conviction. Court documents say Handerhan's home computer contained 147,000 pictures... and more than 1,200 video files of kiddie porn.


Embezzelment Arrest

A Luzerne County woman has been charged with allegedly stealing $83,000 from her employer. Our media partner... NewsWatch 16... says 41 - year old Amy McCamley is accused of making off with the money from the Independent Chemical Corporation in Pittston Township over a one year period starting in April of 2011. McCamley telling investigators she had a problem with prescription drugs... and credit card debt.


Day Care Theft

A 41 – year old Milton woman is accused of taking nearly $35,000 from a non – profit daycare center in Snyder County. Pamela Sue Crites allegedly took the money from the Children's Discovery Center in Penn Township. Police say Ms. Crites said her personal finances were “tight...” and started taking the money in 2010 when she deposited checks... but kept cash payments. Crites is facing a long list of theft charges.


Shamokin Schools

Shamokin area schools are scheduled to begin next week.... but the year may be delayed a day or two. The reason... on going construction at the District's elementary school. It's expected to be done by Saturday... but if it isn't... parents and guardians will receive an automated call on Sunday.... telling of the district's decision.


Warrant Issued

An arrest warrant has been issued for a man who W-B police say robbed Movies 14 over the weekend. They're looking for 33 – year old Patrick Falvin. It's believed he strolled into the theater Sunday night... pointed a handgun an an employee with a bank bag... and slipped into the darkness. Flavin is facing a long list of charges.

BU Football

Last season Bloomsburg University had the only college football team in the nation with two running backs who rushed for over a thousand yards... Franklin Quiteh and Eddie Mateo. Both are juniors this season... and Mateo says they both work toward one goal... and that is getting a PSAC championship ring. Handing off to the running backs this season will be Tim Kelly... a redshirt freshman from Camp Hill who has won the starting position according to head coach Danny Hale.


PSAC Expansion

The PSAC is expanding. During a news conference in Johnstown Tuesday... it was announced that Seton Hill and Pitt – Johnstown will be joining the conference in the 2013 / 2014 season. It will make the PSAC the largest Division two conference in the nation.


Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies dropped the second game of their series against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night. The final score was 5 to 4. The Phil's led for much of the game until the Reds scored in each of the final three innings. The two teams tangle in game three of their four game series Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. You can catch all the action starting with the pre – game show at 6:30... followed by the first pitch at 7:05 on News Radio 930, 94.7, 104.3 & Berwick's 1280.
