I-80 Crash

The westbound lane of Interstate 80 near Lightstreet is back open following a chain reaction crash shut it down Tuesday afternoon. State police tell WHLM News a tractor - trailer driven by 38 - year old Richard Went of New Jersey was westbound when he slowed for traffic in a construction zone. Behind him... a compact driven by 25 – year old Joseph Kemper, Jr of Northumberland. But a second tractor trailer driven by 46 – year old Roger Eck of California failed to slow... ramming the compact into the first big rig. Eck.. Kemper and an unidentified passenger in his car were all taken to Geisinger. Police tell us the investigation is continuing.


Bridge Inspection

The inspection of the Iron Bridge on Millville Road... linking Bloomsburg with Mt. Pleasant Township is expected to be wrapped up late Wednesday afternoon. A contractor has spent the past three days checking the connections on the girder – style span... and will later give PennDOT a comprehensive report.  But, the agency's Rick Mason says the state still has a lot of structurally deficient bridges to deal with. The check of the 82 – year old, 159 foot span is designed to see if it can still take the loads it has in the past and also check for damage produced by Tropical Storm Lee last September.


Relay for Life

Bloomsburg's 17th annual Relay for Life kicks off Friday at noon at the Town Park on Market Street. Local chairperson Patti Zwalkuski says they hope to raise thousands of dollars through participants who walk for 24 – hours in order to fight the disease. The event begins Friday at noon time at Town Park. Meantime... the Relay for Life team receiving a proclamation this week from Bloomsburg Town Council... noting Friday and Saturday “Relay for Life Day.”


Constable in Trouble

A state constable from Luzerne County... is on the other side of the law. Our media partner... NewsWatch 16 is reporting... 54 – year old John Gould of Kingston is accused of spying on girls 15 and 17 while they took a shower in his camper at a neighboring Northumberland County campground. The teens are his foster children. Authorities say he's charged with six counts of invasion of privacy.


Preliminary Hearing

A preliminary hearing is set for today for a Berwick woman accused of embezzling an estimated $24,000 from the accounts of guests at the Berwick Retirement Village. 37 – year old Sarah Pineda – Scott allegedly took money. Authorities say the woman opened credit card accounts. She also used money to cover personal bills. Pineda – Scott is currently free... after an arraignment earlier this month in front of Judge Richard Knecht.


Death Investigation

An Ebervale man... found on Carson Street in Hazleton earlier this month has died. 29 – year old Aaron Reznick died without regaining consciousness earlier this week at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center. Now... investigators want to know how he ended up in the middle of the street... bleeding and missing some clothing. If you have information... you're asked to call Hazleton Police.


Snatch & Grab Robbery

Freeland police are looking for a man who snatched money from a grocery store register this week. The incident happened late Monday night at Carone's Market on Front Street... and it was all caught on video tape. The video shows the unidentified man checking out... grabbing cash from the register... and leaving the store on foot. Authorities say he only got about a hundred dollars.


Dove Industries

More than a hundred people are... or will soon be... out of work in neighboring Luzerne County. Dove Vinyl Windows on the San Souci Parkway in Hanover Township is shutting down placing 106 people in the unemployment line. Dove Industries officials say their business is a “faltering company...” adding that financing was no longer available and that unforeseen business circumstances played a part in the decision. Those still on the job are wrapping up projects started before the announcement was made.


Sleep Habits

Summer vacations are winding down... and the school year in Bloomsburg, Berwick and Danville is set to begins... it's important that kids readjust their sleep schedules. Experts says starting to go to bed early... and rise at a decent hour should start now... and two days before school begins. The most important part of the component... says one expert... is getting your kids up earlier than on a typical summer day.

BU Football

The Bloomsburg University football team is ranked 25th in the nation in the American Football Coaches Association preseason Division 2 poll. Two other PSAC teams cracked the top 25- California is 11th and defending PSAC Champ Kutztown is ranked 12th.


High School Football

Being the starting quarterback at a storied program like Berwick, wearing the jersey number that Ron Powlus once wore, and being the grandson of the winningest coach in the history of the state all would seem to add up to a lot of pressure on Berwick junior C.J. Curry. But, he doesn't see it that way. C.J. Curry and his Berwick teammates scrimmage Central Mountain Saturday morning at 11 O'clock at Crispin Field. The Bulldogs open the season Friday night, August 31st at Crestwood.


Philadelphia Phillies

Kyle Kendrick and the Philadelphia Phillies shutout the Miami Marlins for the second time Tuesday night 1 to 0. Kendrick who had allowed nine runs -- eight earned -- over his last two starts, tossed seven scoreless innings. Philadelphia and Miami wrap up their series with a matinee Wednesday afternoon.
