Geisinger Outlook

It's been just over six months since Geisinger Health Systems took over the Shamokin Hospital... now it will acquire Bloomsburg Hospital at the end of the month. During a visit to Shamokin at the start of the weekend... Geisinger President and CEO...Dr. Glenn Steele.. says overall performance of the system is doing well. In the case of the Bloomsburg Hospital... the state attorney general has signed off on the deal... and sent to the feds for their approval... some expected to happen within the next week or so.

 

Bloomsburg Administrator

A new Town Administrator will be introduced to employees at Bloomsburg Town Hall Monday... but Bill Lowthart is someone most everyone knows. Lowthart starts his new job Monday... and has been instrumental in major Bloomsburg projects through his work with Lewisburg – based SEDA – COG. Lowthart comes on board three months after former Administrator Ron Mull left under questionable circumstances. His first council meeting as Administrator is Monday night.

 

PA Dairy Month

This is Dairy Month in Pennsylvania... and it's time to salute the farmers who have “stayed with it” in a tough business. And dairy farmers are the backbone of agri – business here in Columbia and Montour Counties. The Farm Bureau's Mark O'Neill says farmers give back to their local communities. Overall... dairy farmers play a major role in the state's economy... generating nearly $2 - billion a year in revenue.

 

I-80 Traffic

It will be a slow go between two interchanges on the eastbound side of Interstate 80 in Columbia County starting Monday. A contractor working on that $50 – million bridge project over the Susquehanna River is setting a daylight signing pattern between the Lime Ridge and the Mifflinville interchanges. The right lane will be closed in order to preforming Slope Benching and widening work.

The work lasts until the early evening hours.

 

Sandusky

The first alleged victims of Jerry Sandusky could confront the former Penn State University assistant football coach as early as Monday. It could happen following opening statements in the trial at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte. The 68-year-old Sandusky is accused of sexually abusing 10 boys during a period of 15 years.... an allegation he denies.

 

Aging Hearings

Three public hearings will be held across the Commonwealth to gather input on the state's so – called plan on aging. Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Brian Duke says the plan charts a course for the Department for the next four years... and that the initial draft can be seen on line. The first hearing will be held June 18th at Penn State University in University Park.

 

Flood Relief

Residents of McAdoo will have to finance the clean up of Memorial Day weekend flash flooding on their own. The borough says there is no state or federal funding available... since McAdoo wasn't declared a disaster area. The flooding was caused by a slow moving line of thunderstorms which dumped three inches of rain an hour on Luzerne... Schuylkill and Carbon counties.

 

Nanticoke Police Chief

Funeral Service to be held this week for Nanticoke Police Chief Jame Cheshinski. He died at the start of the weekend after spending the last three weeks in the hospital. The 60 – year old Cheshinski had been on the force since '72 and was names chief in 2003.

 

Luzerne Council

The search for a clerk to the newly formed Luzerne County Council is underway. An estimated 100 people applied for the job. One councilman says 15 applicants will be interviewed and tested for the job. The clerk job is to prepare motions and resolutions... and assist council chairman Jim Boback with meeting agendas.

Berwick Football

A school board meeting in Dalton, Massachusetts this Thursday could have a profound effect on the Berwick High School football program. At that meeting ,current Berwick coach Gary Campbell is expected to be offered the positions of football coach, athletic director, and health coordinator at Waconah Regional where he coached for ten years before taking over at Berwick in 2006. If he accepts that offer, Berwick will be looking for a new coach for the 2012 season which starts with preseason practices on August 13.

 

Southern Girls

The Southern Columbia girls softball team is one win away from advancing to the Class A state finals. At 2 o'clock Monday afternoon... the Tigers play Greenwood in the semifinals at Hutchinson Field at Bloomsburg University.

 

NHL

The NHL's Stanley Cup final series shifts to Los Angeles Monday night for game 6. The Los Angeles Kings lead the New Jersey Devils three games to two.

 

Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies lost Sunday's game against Baltimore. The final 5 to 4... and it came in extra innings at Camden Yards when Matt Wieters double in the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th.

The Phils have the day off. They'll take on the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Tuesday. You can hear all the action starting with the pre – game show at 7:35... with the first pitch to be tossed at 8:10 on News Radio 930... 94.7 and 104.3... as well as Berwick's 1280.

 

NASCAR / Pocono

Connecticut's Joey Logano wins Sunday 400 mile NASCAR Cup Series event at the Pocono Raceway.
