The head of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is expected in Columbia County next Friday. The goal of Michael Krancer is to get a firsthand look at damage left behind by last September's flood. Krancer will get a close up look of the damage caused to West Main Street in Bloomsburg... as well as Back Branch Road in Mt. Pleasant Township... and the Orangeville area.
A pretty good turnout for a mini sportsman's expo in Shamokin last night hosted by state representative Kurt Masser. Since he serves on the Fish and Game Committee of the house... he wanted to give something back to his constituents. However, there is one problem area... fish in the Susquehanna River turning up with dark – colored lesions... but Rep. Masser says it isn't a Susquehanna – specific problem. Representatives from state game... the fish and boat commission... as well as the National Wild Turkey Federation were on hand to present workshops dealing with hunting and fishing.
Some of the best musical talent in the area will be on stage this weekend at the Haas Center for the performing arts on the Bloomsburg University campus. They will showcase their talent in the First Columbia Bank and Trust Company Teen Star competition. American Idol veteran... Aaron Kelly of neighboring Sullivan County will be one of several judges looking over the future stars. The competition gets underway Sunday at 2 PM... followed by a 6 O'clock replay on News Radio 930, 94.7, 104.3, Berwick's 1280 & www.whlm.com.
A PPL electrical transformer shook up the neighborhood around Market and 8th street Thursday afternoon. The transformer... mounted on a pole along the 800 block of Market... apparently malfunction.... sounding like an explosion. The Bloomsburg fire department responded... but there wasn't much they could do except stand by. PPL's web site outage map showed a little less than a dozen people were affected by the problem.
Fire investigators say that a fire that destroyed a garage on Arch Street in Nanticoke on Thursday is the work of an arsonist. As a matter of fact... police say they plan to arrest two juveniles in the case. The fire was confined to the garage... next to a home that has been vacant since last September's flood. Authorities say the garage and a 23 – and – a – half foot boat were destroyed by the flames. It's the third arson fire to hit Nanticoke during the past few weeks.
Hazleton Home Invasion
A Hazleton family is safe following a home invasion early Thursday morning. Hazleton police say they were called to a home at the corner of Cedar and Chestnut Streets. The family telling investigators that several intruders held them at knife point while they ransacked the home. All then fled in an unknown direction.
Police in Edwardsville... in Luzerne County... have no one in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a man near an apartment complex earlier this week. They say 26 – year old Daron Trollinger was pronounced dead at the scene. A few minutes later... a second Edwardsville man was shot and wounded in another part of the borough. Police should know today if the shootings are connected.

Coal Twp. Accident
An 18 – year old driver had a close call in the Ferndale section of Coal Township Wednesday. Sierra Smeltzer telling police the brakes went out on her father's Ford F-150. Her truck ended up crashing into two parked cars after going through a busy intersection... and down a steep embankment. Ms. Smeltzer was not injured.

Track & Field
Many area track & field athletes will be competing in the District 4 championships tomorrow at Athens High School. The top two finishers in each event plus those that meet qualifying standards will advance to the state championships in Shippensburg next weekend.
In the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals Friday night, the Philadelphia 76ers are at home against the Boston Celtics. Boston leads the series two games to one.
