State Police at Bloomsburg are investigating an unusual occurrence. They say someone got into the Fishing Creek Sportsman Club building near Benton... overnight Wednesday... and released an estimated 7-thousand fish into a near by creek. Police are handling the release as a case of criminal mischief. If you have information dealing with the release of the fish... call state police at Bloomsburg.
It's alumni weekend starting Friday on the Bloomsburg University campus. The class of 1962 will be in the spotlight... when the facility was known as Bloomsburg State Teachers College. The weekend kicks off with an Alumni Network Leadership Conference this Friday at the newly – renovated Sutliff Hall.
Trash 2 Treasure
A lot of preparation work has been going on to make this Saturday's Trash to Treasure sale on the Bloomsburg University campus unique. The event is a fundraiser for the United Way of Columbia County. The sale gets underway at 9 O'clock Saturday... in the Kerr Union.... with folks getting their hands on early bird specials starting at eight. But, you must have a ticket from the United Way to do that.
Traffic is flowing smoothly around the Route 11 and 42 interchange Thursday... after a major natural gas leak shut down that part of the road at midday Wednesday. That stranded thousands of drivers who use that part of the road to go to Danville and Catawissa... as well as get into Bloomsburg and Buckhorn. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in today's edition that a UGI Gas crew cut the line with an excavator while trying to find and repair a reported leak. No one was injured... but at one time an evacuation of the area was considered... which included the W.W. Evans Elementary School on Perry Avenue.
Five employees of the Muncy State Prison are out of the hospital after being exposed to a white powder in the facilities mail room on Wednesday. No one is saying what the powder is. The contents were in an envelope sent to an inmate... containing a return address. The FBI... as well as the U-S postal service are teaming up to investigate the incident at the Muncy State Prison.
One person is dead as the result of a shooting overnight in Edwardsville... in Luzerne County. The person who died was shot at the Eagle Ridge Development on Beverly Street. The sub-division was locked down for a while. Meantime... police say a second person was shot and wounded on Main Street in Edwardsville. No word if the two shootings are connected.
Hazleton police are trying to find the person responsible for a stick up of a Turkey Hill convenience store early Wednesday morning. It took place when a man with a handgun strolled into to the store at 15th and Alter Streets. The bandit threatened a clerk and walked out with an undetermined amount of cash. If you have information about the stick up at the Turkey Hill Convenience store... give Hazleton Police a call.
The Hazleton Area School board says it will have a 2012 -2013 budget in place before the June 30th deadline. However... it contains a deficit of $1.5 – million. The budget gap will be filled by furloughing six teachers... and raising property taxes 2.7%. However, a lot hinges on what sort of money comes from the state legislature... as they put the finishing touches on the state's proposed spending plan.
Train Crash Folo
The driver of a car which collided with a freight train earlier this week in Milton remains in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center. Investigators are still trying to figure out why Kim Bergenstock slammed into the train as it was crossing Center Street in Milton. Her friend... 17 – year old Maxine Eschbach died in the crash.
Jersey Shore Super
The superintendent who leads the Jersey Shore Area School District remains on the job after he was busted near Milton... charged with driving under the influence. Richard Emery wrecked his car in Northumberland County last month... and was found to be three times over the legal limit. Emery has been on the job the past seven years... and our media partner... NewsWatch 16 is reported he trying to save his job.
There was more legal action on the part of Jerry Sandusky's defense attorney. If you recall... Sandusky... an assistant Penn State football coach... is facing more than fifty charges of allegedly assaulting ten boys over a period of time. Attorney's want the charges dismissed... saying the allegations can't be adequately defended... and that Sundusky's due process has been violated. No word when the judge hearing the case will make a ruling. Sandusky's trial gets underway next month.

In high school baseball on Wednesday... Columbia Montour Vo Tech defeated Benton 19 to 9... Bloomsburg wins over Hughesville 7 to 3... Central Columbia blanked Southern Columbia 4 to nothing.
In girls softball on Wednesday... Central Downed Lewisburg 1 to nothing... North Schuylkill gets by Danville 3 to 2... and Berwick slides by Dallas 3 to 1.
Bloomsburg University was the top athletic program in the PSAC for the 2011-2012 school year. The Huskies won the Dixon trophy which pleased first year athletic director Mike McFarland. He credits his staff and coaches for making it a successful year for BU.
In the NBA playoffs last night, the Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 107-91. Boston now take a two games to one lead in their best of seven series. Game four is Friday night in Philadelphia,
