State troopers will be back at a large, rambling home on Coles Creek Mill Road in Sugarloaf Township... near Benton. Police say that's where 38 – year old Abraham Kline allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend... 35 – year old Jocelyn Romano... then turned the gun on himself. Romano died at Bloomsburg Hospital... while Kline was rushed to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with a gunshot wound. Police tell us the shooting stemmed from an apparent domestic dispute... after Romano told Kline she was returning to Washington State to her estranged husband and three kids.
Fourteen property owners are on the list to have their flood – ravaged properties purchased by the federal government. During a Bloomsburg Town Council meeting his week, Mayor Dan Knorr says 11 properties in the 900 block of West Main... as well as three other properties could be purchased. And that answer could come within a matter of weeks.
Times are tight for the Southern Columbia Area School District. The board is facing a $400,000 shortfall in the 2012 – 2013 budget... and it appears teachers have bulls eyes on their back. The board this week... on a five to one vote... decided to cut sixteen employees... and eliminate four sports programs. However, the board has until the end of June to adopt a budget. It's hoped issues can be ironed out to fill the gap and restore teachers and programs.
Budget / Millard
The state house and senate are circling June 15th on their calendar. That's when they want to have their proposed 2012 – 2013 budget wrapped up. State Rep. David Millard of Millville says that allows the house and senate plenty of time to get the proposal to Governor Corbett. Rep. Millard says getting down to examining the senate's budget line by line begins next week. The House could sent it back to the senate without changes. They could make changes and send the plan back to the senate so they can vote on amendments... or simply come up with a new plan on their own to be returned to the senate for concurrence.
A state representative who serves neighboring Sullivan County has been selected to serve as the new majority chairperson on the House Gaming Oversight Committee. Republican Tina Pickett says her committee is responsible for the oversight of the growing gaming industry. Representative Pickett has earned her stripes in the state house... having first been elected in early 2000's.
A federal Grand Jury has indicted the football coach at Holy Redeemer High School in Wilkes – Barre. 28 – year old Joseph Ostrowski is accused of producing kiddie porn between the end of 2011 and just last month. Ostrowski was arrested at the school on May 7th... and was suspended from the job by the Scranton Catholic Diocese. He remains in jail awaiting trial.
Federal charges have been filed against a Hazleton man who allegedly robbed Citizens Bank in West Hazleton using a surgical mask. 54 – year old Shawn Luther Kelley is accused of sticking up the Hazle Township bank... and the PNC bank... as well as the Choice One Community Federal Credit Union... all in the Hazleton area. If convicted... Kelley could face up to 60 years in prison and fined $750,000.
There will be a couple of traffic trouble spot if you're on westbound on I-80 Wednesday. PennDOT says it will consist with a rolling roadblock near the Lightstreet interchange while crews remove an old, unwanted overhead sign. In addition.. the right lane of eastbound I-80 will be closed Wednesday afternoon from the Lime Ridge to the Mifflinville interchanges to install new signs.

Bloomsburg University has won the 2011-2012 Dixon Trophy. The trophy is awarded each year to the league school with the top athletic program among the PSAC's 16 full time members. It goes to the school that accumulates the most points based on the results of conference playoffs and regular season records. Shippensburg finished second to the Huskies.
In Philadelphia Wednesday night... it's game three of the NBA Eastern Conference semifinal series between the 76ers and the Boston Celtics. The series is tied at one game apiece.
In NBA Playoff action last night... Indiana held off Miami 78 to 75... knotting the series at one apiece... and San Antonio defeated the The Los Angles Clippers 108 to 92.
The Philadelphia Phillies now have a new hero. He's Hunter Pence who slammed a home run in the 10th inning Tuesday... allowing the Phillies to squeeze by the Houston Astro's 4 to 3. The home run made up for a ball dropped by pence... allowing Houston to tie the game. Meantime... The Phil's are on the road tonight as they take on the Chicago Cubs.
