School Consolidation

We should have an inkling as to the future of possible consolidation between the Central Columbia and the Bloomsburg Area School District's. Consults have been looking at the numbers for a couple of months. They issue a preliminary report next week.... with a final recommendation in mid – June. But, until that time... Superintendent Mathias says... the consultants will continue to kick around the numbers... as well as taking a look at other options... such as building new schools.... or keeping things status quo.


Berwick Jumper

A 23 – year old Berwick man remains in the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after he jumped from the Berwick – Nescopeck Bridge late Saturday night. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Monday's edition Donnie Sult III parked his truck... and went over the railing of the bridge... landing on an island... 80 feet below. He was rescued by volunteer firemen... and flown to Geisinger. Investigators are still trying to figure out why Sult jumped.


David Millard / Budget

The State House in Harrisburg now have their hands on the proposed 2012 -2013 state budget approved last week by the state senate. It's a $27.7 billion package which includes a $500 – million increase in appropriations. State Representative David Millard of Millville says the house now has a couple of options... including coming up with a whole new spending plan.


Northumberland County

Northumberland County could end up filing for bankruptcy unless it's money woes aren't addressed. That word contained coming from County Commission Chairman Vinny Clausi. There is a published report that Northumberland County could wind up 2 – million dollars in the hole, but Clausi telling a Sunbury – area newspaper he's developing a 4 – year plan to to fix the problem. Clausi blames the union who represents county employee's for pushing for pay raises which costs the county more than a million dollars a year.


Road Work

Work will begin today on the rehabilitation of an old bridge on Ideal Park Road in Locust Township.PennDOT says the existing bridge over Roaring Creek is timber... and it's slated to be replace by a new channel – beam deck placed on rehabbed abutments. An alternate route around the construction will be in place through early July.


WB Stabbing

One person is in custody after he allegedly stabbed a man early Sunday morning at a Wilkes – Barre apartment complex in the Sherman Hills area of the city. he man who was stabbed was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Still to be determined... what led to the stabbing in Wilkes – Barre.


Geisinger Baby

A Berwick couple are the parents of a baby who arrived in time for Mother's Day at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. 33 – year old Kristi McClintock gave birth to Ave Grace who checked in at 4 pounds, 8 ounces. A spokesperson for Geisinger says the youngster arrived four weeks early. The child is the first for Ms. McClintock. The father is 38 – year old Vito Corvino of Berwick.
