Pet & Toy

A memorable night Wednesday as the Bloomsburg High School Band led the 46th annual Bloomsburg Kiwanis Pet and Toy parade south on Market Street... to the Town Park. Kids.... dogs... and fire trucks were in the route of march. And despite threatening weather... hundreds of spectators came out and lined Market Street to view Wednesday night's parade.


Child Abuse

A 25 – year old Scott Township woman is expected to have a hearing next Wednesday on a child assault charges. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in today's edition... Ashley Titman of the 2 – hundred block of Central Road is accused of stepping on the face of her 6 - year old son as she tried to get some rest. The youngster telling authorities he wanted to play... and that's when Titman allegedly lost her cool. Titman is already in the Columbia County Prison on a probation violation.


PennDOT / I-80

PennDOT says there will be some traffic trouble spots throughout Thursday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Lime Ridge. Alternating lanes will be closed... and there will be rolling roadblocks due to sign installation work lasting through the late afternoon. The work is in association with the five year, $50 – million bridge project over the Susquehanna River between Lime Ridge and Mifflinville.


Gordner / HEMAP

Legislation providing a multi – year funding source for the Homeowners Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program has been okayed unanimously by the State Senate. Gordner telling colleagues during discussions on the measure... the state has provided $245 – million over the past 29 years... with $275 – million in principal payments paid by homeowners which have come back into the HEMAP program. The measure now goes to the house for their consideration.


Barletta / Immigration

Congressman Lou Barletta of Hazleton... representing Columbia County and northeastern Pennsylvania in Washington... had an amendment he authored... passed as part of an appropriations package for the Justice Department. It calls for no federal tax dollars to be used to file lawsuits against states trying to battle illegal immigration. The Barletta amendment was co – authored by Tennessee Representative Diane Black. It will be included in the final measure drafted by the house.


Mellow Plea

As expected... former State Senator Robert Mellow has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge. Mellow was accused of using senate staffers to do political work.... as well as filing false tax returns. In federal court in Scranton... Mellow telling judge Joel Slomsky he understood the charges he was pleading guilty to. Mellow could spend up to five years in prison. Sentencing date will be set when a report is complete.


Ciavarella Law License

The law license of one – time Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella has been suspended. Ciavarella is the judge found guilty in that “cash for kids” scheme where he sent juveniles to for – profit detention centers run by his friends. In return... boxes of cash flowed across his desk. The license suspension is the first step of possible disbarment. Ciavarella is appealing his conviction.


Burglary Suspect

More troubles for a Luzerne County man already in jail on previous charges. William Gronosky was arrested Wednesday on charges dealing with a alleged home invasion in March. He was arraigned before a Hanover Township District Justice... and sent back to the Luzerne County Prison. Gronosky was already in jail for the alleged robbery of the Carousel Lounge in West Nanticoke... and firing shots at a state trooper.


Alleged Embezzlement

The former treasurer of a youth sports organization in neighboring Schuylkill County will make a court appearance next month. Kelly Lewandowski of Gilberton is accused of draining the account of the Mahanoy Area Youth Wrestling Club. Authorities say the alleged theft happened over a four year period of time... with the cash used to pay bills and personal items. The money had been paid back prior to police entering the case.


Copper Theft

Police say a Hazleton man has been arrested... after officers caught him allegedly stealing copper pipe. 58 – year old Thomas Paris broke into the West Mine Street home where the pipe was located. Police arriving at the scene... with Paris placed in cuff's at the scene.

High School Baseball

In high school baseball yesterday... Southern Columbia blanked Benton 10 to nothing... Danville defeated Selinsgrove 7 to 3.


High School Softball

In girls softball... Southern Columbia topped Muncy 5 to 2... Sullivan County defeated Millville 16 to 6... Bloomsburg blanked Benton 10 to nothing.


Philadelphia 76er's

The Philadelphia 76ers will one again try to clinch their NBA Playoff series against the Chicago Bulls. Both teams play tonight in Philadelphia. The Sixers lead the series three games to two.


Philadelphia Phillies

Cliff Lee and the Philadelphia Phillies... a winning pair most of the time.... but not Wednesday night as the Phil's were defeated by the New York Mets. The final 10 to 6. The Phil's have the night off... as they get ready for a weekend series with the San Diego Padres. You can catch all the action of of the Phillies and Padres starting with the pre – game show Friday night at 6:30. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05 on News Radio 930, 94.7, 104.3 & Berwick's 1280.
