Sutliff Hall
It was built in 1960... renovated in '87... and now Sutliff Hall on the Bloomsburg University campus isn't the place your parents studied at fifty – two years ago. The building is now geared toward business students... with the look and feel of the real world... so says Dr. Michael Tidwell. A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony takes place this afternoon at 3 O'clock on the patio in front of the building's main entrance.
Millard / Voter ID
For the most part... Tuesday's voting went off without a hitch... despite the fact poll workers asked for a picture identification. It was part of the soft roll – out of the state's new voter I-D law. But, come the November election... you will need one... and State Representative David Millard say PennDOT will help provide an I-D.
Millard / Revenue
The deficit the state treasure expected a couple of months ago may not happen. Tax revenues coming in the first couple of months of the year were above projections... with March bringing in an estimated $95 – million. State Representative David Millard of Millville said the figures for April should be in soon... and that will be telling... as to the state budget having a deficit... or being on target.
No Smoking / Trump
The Bloomsburg Town Council has adopted a resolution banning smoking at Town Park on Market Street. Smoking is also not allowed at Streater Park, the Skate Park or the bocce ball courts. This week's vote was 4 to 2... with Mayor Dan Knorr and Councilman Fred Trump voting against the measure. Trump telling me the resolution failed to have an area set aside for smokers. Mayor Knorr voting against the resolution saying it doesn't have any enforcement aspect.... just voluntarily compliance.
Bob Mellow
Former State Senator Bob Mellow won't be in court today as expected. Mellow was planning to plead guilty to a host of corruption charges. No word why a federal judge postponed the proceedings. However, it may have to do with Mellow's expected $11,500 a month pension... amounting to $138,000 a year. It's believed the state Public Employee Retirement Commission is reviewing weather or not Mellow is entitled to the money.
Team Sale
The Scranton / Wilkes – Barre Yankees... a Triple – A franchise team has been sold. The Lackawanna County Multi – purpose stadium authority... selling the team to SWB Yankees LLC. The closing price... nearly $15 – million. The contract also calls for the new ownership group to commit to a minimum of 30 seasons. The sale comes a day after plans were unveiled for the reconstruction of their stadium in Moosic.
Missing Money
It appears the Luzerne County district attorney and detectives will be asked by Nanticoke Police to help them investigate the case of some missing money. That cash is missing from the Nanticoke Middle School's cafeteria fund. No one is saying how much money is not accounted for... but a secretary who keeps the books is now off the job... suspended indefinitely.
Drug Ring
Two convenience store operators in Ranshaw are among eight people busted this month for allegedly operating a drug ring. 41 – year old Jaswinder Fata and 34 – year old Slimane Belabbas were indicted for allegedly selling bath salts and synthetic marijuana at a series of curb stores in a five county area. Their Mount Royal Mini – Mart was allegedly one of the places the ring operated from.

BU Softball
The Bloomsburg University softball team has reached the PSAC Semifinals. In round two of the championships on Thursday, the Huskies beat Kutztown 1-0. They'll play IUP for a berth in Saturday's conference title game.
High School Baseball
In high school baseball Thursday... Berwick defeated Hazleton Area 3 to 2... Columbia – Montour Vo – Tech downed Bucktail 3 to nothing.
High School Softball
In girls' High School softball... Benton got by Millville 11 to nothing... Bloomsburg squeaked by Montgomery 7 to 6... It took 8 innings, but Central Columbia defeated Loyalsock 11 to 8... Southern Columbia blanked Sullivan County 19 to nothing... Columbia – Montour Vo – Tech got by Bucktail 5 to 4.
Danny Hale Field
In a noon ceremony Saturday at Redman Stadium, the playing surface will be named Danny Hale Field. The head coach of the Huskies says he appreciates the honor. The Huskies conclude spring drills tomorrow with the Annual Maroon & Gold game starting at 2 PM.
