If you head to one of the 42 polling places in Columbia County today as you take part in the Pennsylvania primary... you will be asked for a government identification. It's nothing more than a soft roll – out of PA's new voter ID law... so says Columbia County Chief Registrar Matt Rapasky. Rapasky says things get a bit tougher when voting in the November general election. At that time you will have to have a government issued ID to vote.

The local races include a fight for the Democratic nomination between Bloomsburg Mayor Dan Knorr... and James Geffken of Benton in order to face incumbent Republican David Millard for the 109th district state house seat. On Columbia County's south side... Ted Yeager faces Chris Pfaff battle for the Democratic nomination for the 107th district house seat in order to take on incumbent Republican Kurt Masser. There are a variety of state and federal races of interest as well.
Bloomsburg Town Council Monday night... re-allocating dollars... an estimated $250,000 Community Development Block Grant dollars earmarked for the Streater Recreation Area at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and Fishing Creek. Current plans call for several soccer fields... as well as a place to play football. Mayor Dan Knorr saying it would provide the biggest bang for the recreational buck.
PennDOT says work is progressing on that 50 – million dollar bridge project which spans the Susquehanna River between the Lime Ridge and Mifflinville interchanges. The agency's Rick Mason tells us the right lane will be closed and a rolling roadblock will be in effect Tuesday between those two points. That... as crews slow traffic while a new overhead sign is installed on eastbound 80 near Lime Ridge.
The average price of a gallon of gas across northeastern Pennsylvania has dropped seven cents the past week. The Triple A Fuel Gauge report out shows self – serve, unleaded regular is averaging $3.88 a gallon. That's down a penny from the weekend... and seven cents lower than it was last Monday.
Police in Williamsport are looking for the person responsible for setting three arson fires early Monday morning. The fires were reported on Prospect Avenue... Dove Street and McMinn Avenue. The McMinn Avenue fire destroying a travel trailer parked in a driveway. Williamsport police are keeping a sharp eye out to make sure neighborhoods are safe.
A Luzerne County woman has pleaded guilty in the death of her live – in boyfriend. Sherry Cease pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of John Wolfe in the fall of 2010 during a fight inside their Plymouth home. Now Cease will find out her penalty on June 15th.... and could be sentenced to up to 20 – years in prison.
Three people are in the Luzerne County Correctional facility after they were charged with robbing a Hazleton area convenience store late Sunday night. The names of those charges haven't been released. The trio was arrested on Hazleton's south side... driving the wrong way on a one – way street. Police say weapons were also found in the car.
For the past four seasons, Larry Webster was a starter on the Bloomsburg University basketball team finishing his career as the school's all time leading shot blocker. This spring, the senior is trying to make his mark on the Husky football team. Webster is playing defensive end, and he has impressed defensive coordinator Paul Darrow. The Huskies conclude spring drills Saturday with the annual Maroon & Gold game which starts at 2 o'clock. A rough start by the Philadelphia Phillies in their three game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday night. Philly starter Kyle Kendrick allowed 11 hits and seven runs in the first three innings of the game... as Arizona defeated Philadelphia 9 to 5. Both teams meet again tonight in Phoenix
