Bloomsburg Police officers are bracing for this weekend's annual block party along the Town's streets. From the raucous event a couple of years ago... it's now toned down... due to heavy handed enforcement. Police Chief Leo Sokoloski says his officers... and those from out of town... will be keeping a close eye on the festivities... to make sure things don't get out of hand.
Work zones on Pennsylvania highways are killers. PennDOT says last year alone.. 21 people died in 1,800 work zone crashes across the state. The agency's Rick Mason telling reporters at a news conference on Wednesday... 63 of those accidents happened in central and northeast Pennsylvania. PennDOT is getting ready to observe National Work Zone Awareness Week which begins Monday.
Many of you may be caring for a relative or a friend who is ill... or at the end of life... and there are a lot of questions to be answered. Representative David Millard of Millville... holding a caregiver forum Wednesday night for those people who are thrust into a caregiver role. Kathy Martin of Reliant Senior Care in Orangeville said caregivers have a lot of decisions... and choices to make.
Two people have been issued with citations for disorderly conduct. State Police tell us 35 – year old Jessica Schumacher of 3rd street in Benton... and a friend... 29 – year old Rachael Potts... were cited on Tuesday after confronting a group of teenagers... yelling obscenities at the kids... which they believe... have been harassing Schumacher's son. The citations were filed with District Judge Doug Brewer.
State Representative Lynda Culver... who watches out for interests in Northumberland and Snyder Counties will have satellite office hours early this evening starting at 6 PM. Ms. Culver will be at the Northumberland Borough Building on Orange Street to talk about issues related to state government.
A 19 – year old Hazleton man has been arrested after allegedly making off with an estimated $30,000 in tools. State Police say Douglas Creamer faces a long list of charges stemming from a burglary of an auto repair shop on Route 93 in Hazle Township. Creamer is now in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Hazleton Area School District officials are now seeking bids for a dozen walk – though metal detectors in three buildings. That... after more than 80, .22 – caliber bullets were found earlier this month at the bottom of a waste paper can in a rest room at the district's Ninth Grade Center. Not only is the center in line for a couple of detectors... but the Career Center and the High School are in line to get them as well. A 14 – year old boy and two 16 – year old teens were arrested in the case.
It appears St Catherine's Medical Center near Ashland is history. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge John Thomas in Wilkes – Barre order the hospital's chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to be converted to Chapter 7. In essence... the hospital's asserts will be liquidated. As that happens the company which ran the hospital said it is still continuing to seek a buyer.

The Pittsburgh Penguins stayed alive in their series with the Flyers Wednesday night, beating Philadelphia 10 to 3. The Flyers lead the series threes games to one.

But in the 11th inning... the Giants defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 1 to nothing on a walk on RBI hit by San Fran's Melky Cabrera.
