It's going to be a bit different attending the Shamokin Area School District starting next year. The Board of Education Thursday night voted to furlough 22 teachers.... and cut elementary music and arts programs. It's all part of a plan to close an estimated $4 – million budget gap in their overall $30 – million proposed spending plan. Now... kids attending the district won't have music or art classes until they reach the 9th grade. The district must have a spending plan in place by the end of June.

The day is an opportunity... according to Danville Police Chief Eric Gill... for folks to clean out their medicine cabinets.... and delivering the drugs to the police department for disposal.
Elysburg... in Northumberland County... may be on the verge of losing it's volunteer ambulance service. The reason... according to ambulance officers... is fewer members to answer calls 24 / 7 and folks provided emergency medical services are not paying their bills. Elysburg Ambulance serves five townships in Northumberland County... as well as the Knoebels Amusement Resort which hosts up to a million visitors a year.
Hazleton police are awaiting the autopsy results stemming from the death of an 89 – year old woman. The Arthur street woman was discovered... and flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown where she died. Hazleton Police Chief Frank DeAndrea said they don't know if the woman's death was criminal... but they want to know how and why she died.
A manufacturing plant in Hanover Township... in Luzerne County... will soon be adding eighty new jobs. The Certech plant manufactures ceramic molds used to produce aircraft part. The jobs are the result of the state's economic development grant money... and that's allowing the company to consolidate jobs from out – of – state... bringing them to Hanover Township and adding to the 185 jobs currently at the plant.
It's been a little more than a week since 14 – year old Tyler Winstead was shot near his Hill Street home in Wilkes – Barre. Now... folks who live in the neighborhood are asking questions... hoping to find answers. Wilkes – Barre police investigators have remained tight lipped into Winstead's murder. A search of a friends home turned up nothing. All investigators have to go on is that Winstead was shot and killed by one of two men in a Ford Focus.
An estimated 550 cars, trucks and motorcycles will be up for public bid starting Monday. These are state vehicles which are anywhere from drivable... to certified wrecks. Troy Thompson of the state department of General Services says these auctions are good for buyers... and for the state. The auction to take place starting Monday at 10 O'clock at the Manheim Auto Auction in Grantville, Dauphin County... north of Harrisburg.
Both the Bloomsburg University baseball and softball teams will take winning streaks into doubleheader action Friday afternoon. The Husky baseball team has won three straight games going into their games today at Mansfield. The Husky softball team has won 4 games in a row going into Friday's doubleheader at IUP.
