Bloomsburg Town Council
The Bloomsburg Town Council Monday night... adopting a no tobacco use resolution for town park. Although the resolution has no enforcement teeth in it... it calls the elimination of tobacco use at Town Park... Streeter and Skateboard Parks... and bocci ball courts. The final vote was 6 to one in favor of the resolution with Mayor Knorr casting the only “no” vote.
April 21st is being set aside as a massive clean up day of the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. Hundreds of people are expected to show up with power washers... brooms and other clean up equipment in hand. Fair President Paul Reichart says this one last sweep of the fairgrounds will fix the damage left behind by last September's floods...
Officer Involved Shooting
A Wilkes – Barre police officer is on administrative leave this morning... after he shot an alleged armed home invasion suspect on Monday. Right now... state police... as well as the Luzerne County District Attorney’s office in investigating the shooting. It took place on Laurel Street... the officer pulling the trigger of his service revolver when the suspect failed to listen to instructions. The suspect taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital where he's recovering from his wound.
Kids for Cash
Governor Corbett was in Wilkes – Barre on Monday to put pen to paper... signing two bills which came out of that “kids for cash” scandal. The signing came at the Luzerne County Courthouse.... where the scheme took place. Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan were convicted in the scandal in which the pair would sentence juveniles to for – profit detention centers run by their friends. In return... boxes of cash would flow across their desks. Both are serving federal prison terms.
There's an investigation underway in Nanticoke... and it deals with some missing money at Luzerne County Community College. Police say the investigation deals with an employee... who at one time... collected money from students to be deposited in the college's account when she worked as a secretary at the Public Safety Training Institute. But auditors have found an estimated $27,000 was missing. No formal charges have been filed... as the investigation continues into the missing money at Luzerne County Community College.
The price of driving from point A to Point B is getting expensive. The latest Triple A fuel gauge report says self – serve, unleaded – lead regular has increased 21 cents a gallon over the past month... and six cents during the past week. Right now across Northeastern Pennsylvania... it costs us an average of $3.96 a gallon to fill our tanks. You can find cheaper gas at some retailers... but for the most part... it's only a matter of time before prices go over the $4.00 a gallon threshold.
The Bloomsburg University football team will have the 7th of their 15 spring practice sessions tonight at Redman Stadium. The Huskies have the top two rushers in the PSAC returning in Franklyn Quiteh and Eddie Mateo, The Huskies will conclude spring drills April 28th with the annual Maroon & Gold game.

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their home opener to the Miami Marlins, 6-2, on Monday... at Citizens Bank Park. The loss dropped the Phillies to 1-3 on the 2012 season.
