Country Club Drive

The issue of vandalism along Country Club Drive... between the upper and lower campus of Bloomsburg University... has come to light. Those living along Country Club telling town council at a recent meeting... that mail boxes are damaged... outside rear view mirrors of cars twisted... and gardens trampled... allegedly at the hands of University students. Town Councilman Fred Trump says it's a minority doing the damage. And Trump believes the issue will produce a closer working relationship between Bloomsburg University and town police officers.


Bloomsburg Fair

It's going to cost us more to attend the Bloomsburg Fair. The fair board during their meeting Tuesday... boosting the admission from $5 to $8 a person. The reason... to help pick up the tab for the cost of clean – up left behind by Lee flooding last September which canceled the fair for the first time in its history. The Press – Enterprise is reporting in Wednesday's edition that a new eight - day ticket pack will be introduced for the first time this year... averaging out admission to six dollars a person. The fair begins September 22nd.


Woman Trapped

A Danville area woman was taken to Geisinger Medical Center early Tuesday after being run over by her own car. State Police say 70-year-old Edna Clark went out to start and warm-up her car at her home in the Pepper Hills Trailer Park in Cooper Township. Broadcast reports say the vehicle started drifting backwards and Clark fell underneath the car... with her legs trapped by the front tire.

Turnpike Tolls

If you use either the northeast extension... or the East – West Pennsylvania Turnpike... you could be seeing a conversion to all – electronic toll collections. Now that a feasibility study is wrapped up... Turnpike Commission Chairman Carl DeFebo says they will soon begin the next phase to the possible conversion.


Fatal Fire

Two Wilkes – Barre men died Tuesday as the result of an apartment fire. Authorities say the pair was pulled from their burning Pine Street home late in the afternoon. Both were given CPR.... and transported to Wilkes – Barre General for treatment, but died a short time later. The pair have not been identified... and the cause of the late afternoon fire remains under investigation.


Hazleton Fire

Investigators have determined that early morning fire along the 100 block of East Diamond Avenue in Hazleton has been ruled arson. Now... they want to know who started the fire... and why. Tuesday's pre – dawn blaze tossed 21 people out in the streets. Firemen spent nearly two hours to bring the blaze under control. Those people displaced are being helped by the American Red Cross.


Hazleton Police Chief

A former Pennsylvania State Trooper has been named Hazleton's top – cop. During a news conference on Tuesday... Mayor Joseph Yannuzzi naming Frank DeAndrea, Jr... as his choice. DeAndrea had been assisting the city in its chief search.... but when their top candidate pulled out... Yannuzzi asked DeAndrea to step in. Hazleton City Council is expected to okay the hire when they meet Thursday.


School Supers

A bill is on the move in the Pennsylvania state Senate that is designed to limit the value of buyouts for public school superintendents. The bill approved unanimously Tuesday by the Senate Education Committee. It would require that severance packages be detailed upfront in contracts... and put caps on buyouts that are negotiated later by school boards.


Sandusky Update

A judge has scheduled a hearing for Monday to address Jerry Sandusky’s request for specific details about the charges of child abuse against him. The hearing will be at 11 O'clock in the Centre County Courthouse Annex in Bellefonte. The scheduling was ordered by Senior Judge John Cleland. Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, is asking for the exact time, date and location of each of the 52 allegations as well as how old the accusers were at the time. Sandusky is scheduled to go on trial May 14th.

BU Wrestling

Three Bloomsburg University wrestlers have qualified for the NCAA wrestling championships, and the Huskies are hoping for two more when the wild card selections are announced Wednesday afternoon. Already qualified as a result of their performances in last weekend's EWL championships are Frank Hickman at 157 pounds, Mike Dessino at 174 pounds, and Richard Perry at 197. The NCAA Division I wrestling championships will be held in Saint Louis March 15th through the 17th.


BU Women's Basketball

A sendoff will be held for the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team Thursday morning in front of the Nelson Field House before the Huskies leave for the NCAA Atlantic Region in Edinboro. Fans are encouraged to come out and show their support for the Huskies who play IUP Friday night.


Bucknell Basketball

March Madness comes to Lewisburg Wednesday night as the Bucknell University men's basketball team plays Lehigh with the Patriot League Title and a bid to the NCAA tournament at stake. The teams split two games during the regular season with the road team winning both times. Bucknell is seeking its second straight Patriot League Championship.
