A Shickshinny area woman is recovering at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville... after being shot in the groin during a domestic dispute early Monday morning. Authorities say Sundee Baran was allegedly shot with a hand gun held by her husband... Patrick.. when the weapon went off. Patrick Baran now faces a long list of charges... including aggravated assault. He is now jailed in Luzerne County in lieu of 25 – thousand dollars bail.
A former associate professor of early childhood education at Bloomsburg University is fighting extradition to Oklahoma. 65 – year old Gary Doby of Beaver Township is accused of manufacturing child pornography... with pictures of children allegedly taken by a former Oklahoma third grade teacher. The charges were first filed a month ago... and since that time Doby has been jailed at the Columbia County Prison on a half – million dollars bond. Now... a second hearing will be held dealing with Doby's extradition later this month.
Some victims of last September's flooding are struggling... others have had a better go of it... but it all comes down to the area being resilient. That was the message of Monday night's flood update meeting at the Bloomsburg Christian church. Pastor Eric Miller says although non – profit groups are doing what they can... such as his church and AGAPE of Bloomsburg... some government support would be helpful.
Congressman Lou Barletta is announcing that the US Department of Transportation has given PennDOT nearly $40 – million. The money is earmarked for the repair and rebuilding of highways damaged in the storms of late August and early September. Some of that money is earmarked for repairs that have already been completed or now underway in Columbia and Luzerne Counties.
We should know within the next couple of weeks what Governor Corbett has up his sleeve for the 2012 – 2013 budget which begins July 1st. State Representative David Millard of Mt. Pleasant Township says whatever Corbett and his advisers come up with... it sure to be mean... lean and austere.
The price of gasoline across northeastern Pennsylvania is holding steady. According to the Triple - A fuel gauge report out Tuesday morning... self serve, unleaded is averaging $3.46 a gallon. That's the same as it was Monday... and up eleven cents from a week ago. Sabre rattling by Iran is said to be driving up the price of crude oil.
A former Danville High swim team member is facing charges of allegedly taking a cash box during a swim meet over the weekend. Authorities say 20 – year old Nicholas Hein is accused of making off with a box containing more than $400 in cash from a concession stand at the Danville Area Community Center. He was spotted and chased to his home where police recovered the box and retrieved cash Hein had stashed. Hein was arranged and released on $500 cash bail.
Police in Hazleton are still searching for two men who robbed the Pantry Quick in the 900 block of West Diamond Avenue Sunday night. Police say the men strolled into the store... one of them toting a weapon... getting away with money from the register and cigarettes. The clerk on duty was not hurt.

In boys basketball last night: Central Columbia defeated Wyoming Seminary 44 – 41... and Newport downed Millville 40 to 33.
