It's going to be some time before we see a new Kidsburg constructed in the Bloomsburg Town Park. The area was ravaged by September flooding... and now the Town Park Association has received permission from town council to demolish it to make room for Kidsburg 2.0. Association President Chuck Wagner says demolition could take place as early as spring, but it may be 18 months to two years before we see a new Kidsburg rise from the ground.
YMCA Walk / Run
The Bloomsburg YMCA on 7th street is gearing up for Saturday night's 5K Run / Walk through the streets of the town. The “Y” coming up with a package for dinner at the Moose Exchange.... as well as overnighting at the Hampton Inn near Lightstreet. Still no word as to what caused a fire in the 400 block of Route 309 near Drums... in Butler Township late Sunday night. The fire caused extensive damage to a two story structure. No one was at home at the time of the blaze. A state police fire marshal is conducting the investigation.
In Freeland.... near Hazleton in Luzerne County... seven people are homeless as the result of a Christmas night fire in a double block home on Alvin Street. All are receiving help from the American Red Cross... as a fire marshal tries to determine the cause of the Sunday night fire.
A fourth person has been arrested in connection with the assault on three Penn State Schuylkill students earlier this month. Leonard Stubbs of Philadelphia was taken into custody for his alleged part on a home invasion and robbery at student housing in early December. Three others were captured within days of the attack. All are in the Schuylkill County jail.
For those of us who enjoy winter weather... Pennsylvania's state parks and forests are waiting for you. State parks and forests remain open for business... and for snowmobilers.. all that is needed is some snow and the trails will be good to go. Other options include riding ATVs, cross-country skiing at several state parks, along with late-season hunting and ice fishing. Keep in mind that trail maps have been updated to reflect changes to gas operations and recent storm damage. You can get the maps and information by going to the DCNR web site.
Starting Tuesday... some new rules take effect across the state affecting young drivers. The law includes increased on-the-road training... permits traffic stops for seat belt violations... and places limits on the number of passengers under the age of 18 that may be in the car. The aim is increasing safety for young drivers.
The price of self – serve, unleaded regular gas across northeastern Pennsylvania has remained steady throughout the Christmas holiday weekend. The Triple – A fuel gauge report out Tuesday shows gas is averaging $3.28 a gallon. That was the same price as Monday.... and the same as a week ago... but down five cents from a month ago. The Triple - A says travel over the holiday weekend was up nationwide by at least 1% despite the fact that gas is up 28 – cents over a year ago.

In girls basketball Tuesday night... in the Judy Knorr Tournament in Berwick, Central Columbia plays Selinsgrove at 6 O'clock. At 7:30, Berwick plays Bethlehem Freedom. The consolation and championship games will be played Wednesday night.
